With the school Christmas Fayre tomorrow (Wednesday), we have been making chocolate Christmas shapes to sell on our stall. Discussions about what would happen when we put chocolate in the microwave then the fridge developed the children’s learning about science and we also used numeracy skills to count the squares of chocolate as we prepared our chocolate shapes.
We hope that lots of Nursery children and their families will be able to come to the Christmas Fayre tomorrow from 6.30 until 8.00 in school. We can certainly recommend the chocolate shapes to anyone who has a little money to spend – at 50p a bag we think that they are a tasty buy.

Deferred Year
The parents of those children who have birthdays between September and February, and are due to start school in August 2017 have already had a letter explaining the options re a deferred year in Nursery.
An information leaflet and application forms are available in Nursery for those who wish to apply for an additional year. Please ask staff for copies if you are interested in this option. The final application date is January 16th when applications must be in Dumfries.
We hope that you take the opportunity to speak to staff if you are unsure about your child’s readiness to move to Primary 1 next year and we can discuss our views.
Christmas Hampers
Thank you very much to those who have brought lovely gifts to add to our hampers for the Christmas Fayre. This is just a few of the children who have kindly brought in donations which will be made into two hampers.
Thanks also go to those who are selling their squares for the Hecklegirth Fundraisers. The winners of our Nursery hampers will certainly be very lucky so good luck everyone. We hope that you all have the date in your diary for the Christmas Fayre which is on December 7th.
Super Snowmen
Lots of snowmen have been appearing in the art area of Nursery lately and it’s great to see the range of ideas the children can produce to create some wonderful individual works of art.
This is our display to contribute to the air of Christmas in the school corridor which is lined with lots of super snowmen by every class. I wonder if the children can find their own work of art? Look out for lots of snowmen appearing in Nursery too. We will post some individual photos soon.

Thank You
Mollie’s family has been looking at the graduation photos:
“Everyone did so well at graduation ! Mollie has loved her time at Nursery and we will miss you all, but we will not be too far away in P1/2. Thank you so much for a fabulous two years!”
We will miss all the children moving on too and hope that they enjoy their time in Primary 1.
Playground Visits
There have been some excited Nursery children in the school playground over the past couple of weeks when the children moving to Hecklegirth P1 in August went out to play.
After visiting the playground when no other children were there, they then joined the rest of the school for a visit at break and lunch times. Despite it being a very busy time, the buddies ensured that all the children were confident and happy to try out the different areas of the playground, the field and the timber trails. It was wonderful to see how much the children had grown in confidence to visit different areas of the school thanks to some super support from Primary 6. Just look at all those happy faces! Hopefully we will manage another visit to the playground soon. Well done P6 buddies! You are doing a super job!

Open Day
Tomorrow, May 4th May, is an Open Day at Hecklegirth. After the children showed an interest in the story of Noah’s Ark on our visit to his church, Rev. McGougan is coming in to Nursery at 11.30 and 2.30 to tell them the story and parents are more than welcome to join us if they would like to. As always, you can also join us to play at any time during the day.
Big Pedal Week
Next week is Big Pedal week! Please come to school all week on your bike or scooter and encourage family and friends to do it with you.
On Monday 18th April we are having a free fun event with I Bike cycling officer, Katie Robinson and Annan Youth Cycling Group leading skills and competitions throughout the day. Please DO NOT travel by bike or scooter without a helmet.
During the day there will be the chance for pupils to take part in a variety of skills sessions to improve balance and co-ordination. We are also holding a Breakfast Club at 8.25 am in the school kitchen for those coming to school on their bike or scooter. The Bike Breakfast is a free breakfast for pupils who cycle or scoot to school on Monday. Breakfast will be served between 8:25 and 8:55am. Those who cycle or scoot will be given a breakfast of fruit, yogurt, juice and a cereal bar. Nursery children should be accompanied by an adult for the breakfast please.
