Part of our Health Week activities involved an Anklebiters session on the school field. It was slightly chilly for our morning session but the children soon warmed up when they stretched, jumped, ran and turned every way to follow instructions for the fun activities. Here is a snapshot of the children keeping fit, healthy and happy.

Fit And Healthy
Just like the afternoon children, those in the morning session started off Health Week with several laps of walking round the school grounds. It was lovely to have some of the Primary 6 buddies supporting them on their journey and the drinks station was a great addition on such a warm day. Well done everyone for a super effort to keep fit and healthy.
Fit To Learn?
Do you have problems getting your child to sleep? Do you know how much sleep young children need and how important sleep is for their development?
Why not come along to our “Fit To Learn?” workshops in the school dinner hall this Thursday 24th May, between 2.00 and 4.00 to learn a little more? These are drop-in workshops so you do not have to be there at 2.00. Mr. Palmer, our Depute Head, and Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, will be there and children can accompany their parents/carers so you may want to drop in after our Fun Activity Day?
Health Week Challenge
Health Week is well and truly underway and the sunshine seemed to know that we had some outdoor fun planned for today. It was a gorgeous day for our initial challenge of walking round the school field and playground to begin our keep fit campaign and the children measured up to the challenge, walking round the circuit several times. Here is a taster of some of the children striding out in the afternoon session. More photos will follow as the week progresses.
Cycle Smoothie
The cycle smoothie activity was yet another great fun event that Nursery children took part in during our recent Health Week. These afternoon children chose from a selection of delicious fruits and juices which were put in the liquidiser on the back of a specially adapted bike. The children then pedalled the bike to activate the liquidiser and produce their smoothie. All agreed that this was a great way to make smoothies which tasted delicious.
Tesco Tasting
Health Week meant lots of fun, active events but we also had visits from Tesco staff who brought a selection of fruits for the children to taste as part of a healthy eating lifestyle. Some were keener than others to sample fruits that they would not normally eat, such as pomegranate, but many ‘had a go’ and discovered that they liked what they tasted.
Thank you to Tesco for providing us with such a lovely selection of fruit and to the staff who prepared it and talked to the children about what they could sample.
Pass The Baton
As part of last week’s Health Week activities we took part in a whole school and Nursery relay which involved a baton being passed from class to class all day round the school grounds. Well done to the Nursery children for playing their part in keeping the baton going.

Tennis Beginners
We have more exciting events to share from our busy Health Week. On Tuesday the morning children enjoyed a session with Mike, the tennis coach, who provided lots of fun activities to help the children learn control of a tennis ball. As you can see, we had coats on and fastened up, as it was quite a chilly day, but everyone listened well and tried their very best with all the different games.
Mike told us that, once the work on Annan tennis courts is complete, there may be classes for younger children so we hope that these children have enjoyed their experience and may want to take part in these classes in the future. Even Andy Murray started at the beginning so who knows what potential our children may have?
Zumba Moves
Noah’s family has been looking at the photos of our Health Week:
“Noah really enjoyed the Zumba and was still doing the moves when we left school!” Well done Noah for remembering the moves! That will please Mrs. Menzies.
He also loved the medal he got on our Fun Activity Day for all his hard work:
“Awh! Noah was so proud that he got a ‘model’!”
We were very proud of all the children for showing such enthusiasm and confidence that day. We love that Noah liked his ‘model’!
Zumba
Zumba was our Health Week taster activity on Monday afternoon and the children thoroughly enjoyed their session with Mrs. Menzies. Most listened very well and were able to make a good attempt to follow her moves. Thank you to Mrs. Menzies for all your hard work and patience. We think that you must have been very tired doing zumba all day – some of the children were tired after just one session.
