calendar blogWe hope that everyone is enjoying their summer holidays and is having lots of fun with their families. To help you plan your next holiday, we have put all the dates for the new school year in our “Dates for Your Diary” link on the right under “Support Information”.

This link is updated with more detail as the year progresses, once we have other dates in place, so all the information you need for your calendar will be there. We hope that this is helpful for everyone.

New Term

We hope that everyone has enjoyed their holidays with their families. You will no doubt have lots of tales to tell us when you return. Nursery starts back tomorrow (Monday) when we look forward to welcoming three new children and their families. Starting times are as normal – a soft start between 8.45 and 9.10 for the morning children and 12.15 in the afternoon. We look forward to seeing you all then.

Read Aloud

We would like to remind you that Eileen’s rearranged Read Aloud session is on tomorrow, March 1st, from 12.15 until 1.00 when story, activities and crafts will be available in the Family Learning Room. We hope that those who missed last time through illness are feeling better now and are able to attend.

Pancake Breakfast

pancakeWe would like to remind everyone about our Pancake Day Breakfast tomorrow (Monday) at 9.15 and 2.15 in the school dinner hall. All the children will participate and they will be joined by those parents who would like to be part of this event. We hope that you are all looking forward to a delicious Pancake Breakfast.

Parents as Early Education Partners (PEEP)

coffee3PEEP is for parents and children (age 5 and under). Meetings are once a week for about 40 minutes. At these meetings we will be learning through playing, singing, telling stories and generally having fun. Your child will join you for part of the session.

If you are interested in PEEP and would like more information, please pop in to the Family Learning room tomorrow, 15th January, anytime between 11.00 and 3.00 or on Tuesday, 19th January, between 9.00 and 1.30. Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, will be ready with a tea or coffee to explain what you would be doing in these sessions. Children will not join you for these initial sessions. We hope that lots of parents/carers pop in for a coffee to these drop-in sessions to find out a little more as they sound like good fun and will help your child’s learning.

If you cannot come tomorrow or Tuesday but would like more information, please contact Eileen or leave a message with Nursery staff.

Primary 1 Enrolment

As you may be aware, P1 enrolment will take place on Tuesday, 12th January and Wednesday, 13th January 2016 between 9.00 am and 3.30 pm for children who will be five on or before 28th February 2017. You should enrol at your catchment primary school. If you are unsure of your catchment school, please use the “find my nearest” tool on the www.dumgal.gov.uk website.

When visiting your catchment school you should take your child’s birth certificate together with proof that you live permanently at your address, for example Council tax bill, recent utility bill or bank statement.

There have been some changes to the enrolment process, the main one being there are now two forms; one for those wishing to attend in their catchment school and one for those wishing to make a Placing Request to attend a different primary school to their catchment school. Please attend your catchment school and they will give you the correct form to complete.

Happy New Term

Tomorrow, Wednesday 6th January, will be the start of term and we are looking forward to seeing everyone again, along with the eight new children who will also be getting ready for their first day. We hope that they are excited to be starting Nursery and are looking forward to making new friends. No doubt everyone will make them feel welcome and we hope that this is the beginning of a happy experience for the children and their families.
Our morning session will have a soft start, as usual, between 8.45 and 9.10. The afternoon session will begin at 12.15. We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Deferred Year In Nursery

The parents of those children who have birthdays between September and February, and are due to start school in August 2016 have already had a letter explaining the options re a deferred year in Nursery.
An information leaflet and application forms are available in Nursery for those who wish to apply for an additional year. Please ask staff for copies if you are interested in this option. The final application date is January 15th when applications must be in Dumfries.
We hope that you take the opportunity to speak to staff if you are unsure about your child’s readiness to move to Primary 1 next year and we can discuss our views.
