As well as coming to Nursery dressed a story character on World Book Day, some of the children brought in their favourite book and we paid a visit to Annan library which helped us learn a little more about our local community. After enjoying stories read by the librarian, we returned to Nursery where we shared the stories brought in from home which rounded off a lovely day for everyone.
Lots of children seemed to be familiar with the library and hopefully more may join after this visit. Thank you to all the parents who came along with us. We really appreciate your help.

Derek the Paramedic
As we begin to learn about our community and the jobs we can grow up to do there, the morning children had an exciting visit from ‘Derek the Paramedic’, also known as Harper’s Papa. The children enjoyed finding out about the equipment he uses in his job and Derek listened very patiently to stories of medical situations the children had experienced as we tried to work out when we need an ambulance. They were also excited to see all the equipment inside the ambulance which he kindly brought to Nursery and, of course, the blue light and siren were great highlights of the visit.
Thank you so much to Harper’s Papa for taking the time to talk to the children about his job and for showing them inside an ambulance which he hopes should make it less worrying for a child if they ever need to use one for a trip to the hospital.

Super Shoppers
Some photos from a while back of a group of children on a shopping expedition show them off to the town to buy brushes and varnish to prepare the tree trunk seating in the garden. As you can see, they showed independence skills as they found what they needed in the shop and paid for them. Thank you for being so helpful boys and girls – you were super shoppers.
Police Station Visit
Isaac and his Mummy enjoyed the visit to the police station:
“We had a great time at the police station. Isaac especially liked switching the sirens on and off in the van.”
Those sirens and the blue lights were very popular!
Wonderful Trip
Paulina’s Mum left a comment about our visit to the police station:
“Thank you I could be a part of this wonderful trip to the police. It was very lovely time with children. Monika (Paulina’s mum)”
Thank you very much for coming with us. We couldn’t manage trips out to our community without all our parent helpers.
Afternoon Visit to the Police Station
The Rainbow Room afternoon children showed great enthusiasm on their recent visit to the police station and enjoyed finding out all about a police officer’s job. Just like the morning children, they behaved beautifully and made us very proud of them all. Thank you again to those parents who helped to make this visit possible and to the staff at the police station who gave up their valuable time.

Police Visit
Thom’s family has been looking at our photos at the police station:
“We had a fabulous time at the police station, so pleased i could come along too. Thom liked the handcuffs best, he was amazed the Policeman let us look at them! All the Staff were brilliant with the children. Thom has been looking out for the cctv cameras in town and waving at the police!”
Thanks for helping us that day – it’s always lovely to have parents with us. There seemed to be a few children who enjoyed trying out the handcuffs. I wonder if the police officers have seen you waving Thom? I’m sure it will make their day if they do.
Police Station Visit
After a postponed visit last term, the Rainbow Room managed to get their visit to the police station last week as part of learning about our community. Everyone enjoyed watching life on the High Street through the CCTV cameras, had a good look in the cells, where some tried out the sleeping arrangements, and round the various areas of the police station. The police vans and cars provided great excitement especially once we were able to try out the sirens and blue flashing lights. As you can see, some of the children even had a little turn with the handcuffs.
Thank you so much to all the staff for showing such patience with the children and giving up their precious time. Thanks also to those parents who accompanied us on our outing. We all had a great visit. Here are the morning children on their visit. We will post photos of the afternoon children soon.

Sunshine Church Visit
The Sunshine Room children had their visit to Rev. McGougan’s church last week and enjoyed learning all about the church and what happens there. Everyone was interested in the beautiful Noah’s ark so Rev. McGougan has kindly arranged to come in to Nursery to talk to the children about the story. Thanks again to all those parents who accompanied us on our visit and to Rev. McGougan for giving us so much of his time. We look forward to his visit soon.
Fun and Games
Thom’s Mum has left a comment saying that they enjoyed the indoor curling Rev. McGougan arranged for us:
“We both loved this game!”
We all had fun trying it out too. I wonder if the Sunshine Room children will be able to try it out on their visit to church tomorrow?
