Sunflower Gallery

Carmen’s Mum was impressed with everyone’s sunflowers:

“Aw this is right down Carmen’s street. She just loves drawing pictures of flowers. She loves to pick them too and brings them to me with a smile. How can I refuse, even tho I’ve not got many flowers left in the garden after Carmen’s been. Lovely display of pictures here. Well done boys and girls they look great.”

Carmen does loves flowers. We’ve noticed that too. Well done everyone with your super artwork.

Vincent Van Gogh

Vincent Van Gogh is the latest artist that the children have learning about and to get a taste of his work we looked at “Sunflowers” and “Starry Night”. The children talked about what they liked in his paintings and which painting they preferred.

Bethany: I like “Starry Night” best ’cause it has lots of stars on it. It’s funny that it’s a yellow moon – it should be white.
Dan: I like “Sunflowers” best ’cause it’s got nice colours.
Riley: I like the vase in the “Sunflowers”
Kailey: “Starry Night” is best ’cause it’s colourful.
Freya: I like the “Sunflowers” one best ’cause I like sunflowers.
Theo: I like the blue bits in the middle of the sunflowers.

The children also produced their own artwork using Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” as inspiration. Have a look in Nursery and you can see their super efforts. We will put photos of their art work here soon.

Kandinsky Gallery

After being introduced to the work of the artist Kandinsky, Nursery children are now keen to produce a piece of artwork in his style. Some have worked hard to mix colours, some have used pens but there’s no doubt that many of the children have developed an enthusiasm to produce Kandinsky style art. We hope that you enjoy our little gallery below.

Kandinsky Comments

We have been looking at these pieces of work by the artist Kandinsky this week. The children have talked about they can see in his paintings and have been thinking about whether they prefer his paintings or those of Arcimboldo who they learned about last term.
Bethany: he’s done twirls just like a princess (picture 1)
Zachary: it’s like eyes that are green and lots of colours (picture 1)
Freya: there’s squares and there’s purple. I love it. (picture 1)
Kailey: Arcimboldo’s the best ’cause it’s more stuff like food.
Ava V.: I like Kandinsky because I like the swirls.

Dan: it’s got flags and spots that look like the moon.(picture 2)
Riley: it’s like a flag (picture 2)
Bethany: it looks like a walker for a baby (picture 2)
Theo: it’s got a yellow head (picture 3)
Sophie S: it’s all spots and a head (picture 3)
Zachary: Arcimboldo’s the best.
Kailey: I like it. I like the greeny blue bit. (picture 3)
Dan: it looks like a shark’s back. It’s got shapes and the fin of a shark.(picture 3)

Arcimboldo Takes Shape In Cream and Yoghurt

Both Ava and Bethany have impressed their families with their Arcimboldo work:

“wow what a fantastic picture Ava, very creative!”

We agree – this was a brilliant effort from Ava.

“Well done to all involved in the excellent Arcimboldo Project. It certainly held Bethany’s attention. Cara, her dog, also found her painting of special interest. She sniffed around the sweets until she was moved on! Keep up the good work.”

We’re glad that Cara appreciated Bethany’s work. Maybe you should display your picture up high on the wall Bethany just in case Cara fancies another look at it?

As promised, we thought we’d share the portraits that the children decided to make with different foods that they suggested – cream, yoghurt, bread and various fruit and vegetables. Obviously these choices of food could not really be glued very easily so the children each took their own photo of their work. We hope that you agree that they’ve done a very good job with their art work and photography.

We Love Arcimboldo

It’s great to hear that you have been enjoying our artwork. We have had three comments on our Arcimboldo photos:

“We have enjoyed hearing all about Arcimboldo. Freya has really enjoyed topic and portraits.”

“I was very impressed that Sophie remembered the artists name, i thought i had heard her wrong when she told me why she had been given a sticker! Anyway we looked on the internet together and i discovered who it was and recognised his work so it’s nice us Mummy’s get to learn new things too!!
Love all the Children’s work, fantastic idea, especially the ice cream cones!!”

“Fantastic picture Bethany! Well done!:-) Auntie Sarah”

Thank you all for taking time to post a comment. The children certainly seem to have enjoyed learning about an artist and made a super job of their portraits. We will put some different ones up soon as some of the children decided they would like to move on to foods that couldn’t be so easily glued – squishy cream and yoghurt portraits will follow.

Arcimboldo Autumn Artists

As part of our learning about Autumn we have looked at some of the work of the artist Arcimboldo. We looked closely at his “Autumn” portrait to see how he used food to depict the seasons as faces then we used food to make our own portraits. Here are some our comments on Arcimboldo’s painting of “Autumn”:

Reagyn: that’s awesome. I can see leaves and they’ve got berries joined on – it’s like tadpole eggs.
Logan: it’s a funny face ’cause it’s got fruit.
Roxy: there’s leaves and it’s like they’re falling off the tree like Autumn.
Lexi: he’s got an apple face
Rebecca: I think it’s funny ’cause he did it all himself.
Darcy: there’s a pumpkin on his face.

The children were very enthusiastic to make their own Arcimboldo style portraits. We hope that you enjoy our Arcimboldo gallery.

Our Lowry Street

Towards the end of term we were learning a little about the artist, L. S. Lowry. We compared the scenes in his paintings to Annan and talked about his life. We tried to make some street scenes for display just like Lowry and here are some of our efforts. Can you spot your painting?

Arcimboldo Artists

We used food to make portraits in the style of the artist Arcimboldo. As you can see, everyone had different ideas of what to use and how to use it but we think that the children produced some very interesting and original works of art.
