Outdoor Helpers

Callum’s family has been looking at the photos of the children helping in the digging area:

“Callum told me he had his photo taken outside. What a great photo it is with all his friends. He told me he had a great time helping outside. He said he was helping lifting the soil. He says he was strong and had big muscles. He is loving nursery especially playing outside.”

They were a great little team helping each other. We are all having a busy time outdoors at the moment and will share more photos soon. It’s good to hear that Callum’s enjoying outdoor play.

Good Teamwork

Some of the children have been showing themselves to be ‘effective contributors’ as they helped us in our outdoor mud kitchen. A new batch of compost and sand to fill our digging area needed transported so the children took turns to push the trolley and make a delivery. Even one of our builders was kind enough to help us with our new water butt which we hope to have installed soon. Thank you to all our little helpers who worked so well as a team.

New Shelter

shelterTowards the end of last year our new shelter was erected over the mud area and it has been very useful a few times recently when the rain has arrived unexpectedly. It’s hard to tell from this photo but it was actually raining here and the children thought it was strange that they were playing outdoors in the rain without suits on. They were very excited to play under the shelter, listening to the rain on the roof and were amazed that everything was still dry. Hopefully the children will be able to help us to develop this area further with their ideas over the next few months.

Nursery Rules

We have been talking to the children about rules in Nursery and why we need them. Already it seems that lots of children are beginning to understand our rules and the reason for them. Here are a few of their ideas.

Lucie: don’t run in Nursery. You might slip over something.
Owen: you have to be quiet.
Kenzie: you don’t hit in Nursery and you don’t push and you definitely don’t kick.
Enid: we don’t rip books.
Sally: no fighting.
Noah: you walk so you don’t trip.
Callum: we need to be friends.
Summer: have a little voice or your ears might get sore.
Reuben: you’re not allowed to hit.
Chloe: we need to tidy.
Riley: you don’t hit.
Harper: take turns.
Ava: no shouting.
Lily: you shouldn’t run away. We have to be nice.
Eli: no hitting.
Harvey L: don’t push.

Well done boys and girls. It sounds like you are thinking about what we can do to stay safe and happy in Nursery.

Nursery Placement

Olivia’s family has been hearing about our student whom we welcomed to Nursery this week:

“Olivia came in and told us there was a new Mrs Carruthers in nursery but that she had long gold hair! I’m sure Jen will love her placement in nursery, I love how you just never know what they are going to come out with next! All part of the fun! 🙂”

I did wonder if the children might use the titles ‘Old Mrs. Carruthers’ and ‘Young Mrs. Carruthers’ but well done Olivia for telling your family about Mrs. Carruthers with the “long gold hair”. We feel sure that Mrs. Carruthers will thoroughly enjoy playing with all the children in Nursery.

Welcome

studentWe would like to welcome Mrs. Jen Carruthers to our team. She will be on placement in Nursery Mondays and Tuesdays all day as well as Thursday mornings as part of her SVQ Childcare course linked to Dumfries and Galloway College.
We hope that Mrs. Carruthers enjoys her placement with us this year and that the children don’t get too confused with having two Mrs. Carruthers in Nursery.
