The Sunshine Scarecrow

You may have noticed some unexpected visitors in the Nursery cloakrooms today. These ladies are the scarecrows which the children made as part of a whole school activity prior to our Harvest celebrations next Friday. As you can see, The Sunshine Room decided to go for a patchwork theme and, after an all important vote, have called their scarecrow Princess Rosie. Here are some photos of the work in progress as different children made their contribution to their room’s scarecrow. Well done boys and girls for working so well together. The Rainbow Room’s creation will appear here soon.

From a Small Seed …

sunflower

Last term the children planted sunflower seeds and took them home as seedlings, having learned how to care for them to make them grow. Mollie’s Mum has sent us this photo of the sunflower that she looked after and said,

“From a small seed……..

Shame I didn’t get Mollie in photo too!”

That is indeed a huge sunflower to have grown from a small seed Mollie. Well done for looking after it so well and thank you for sending us a photo.

Well Done Dylan

Dylan’s family has left a comment to say how delighted they are with his certificate:

“Dylan was so proud of himself when he came home with his special award, as were we, 🙂 he was so excited to show and tell everyone about it. Mummy, Daddy and Brooke are so proud of you Dylan, and at how well ur doing at nursery, -you are a wee star. ☆keep up the good work ♡♡ xxx”

That is a lovely smile in your photo Dylan. You certainly should be proud of your achievements. Well done!

Family Pride

Emma and Ben’s families were both delighted with their certificates and left us comments to say how proud they are:

“Well done Emma. Very proud mummy, daddy and wee sister. Have enjoyed hearing all about Autumn. You’ve certainly learned a lot.”

“Ben was so excited to FaceTime his Nannie and Poppie in Edinburgh when he came home from nursery with his first certificate. We’re all so very proud of him. Well done Ben. X”

Ben’s family also liked the photo of him measuring Captain Furrybeard:

“Good measuring Ben, wonder if Captain Furrybeard was the same height as you!!”

We did talk a lot about who was biggest and smallest. It was certainly tricky getting Captain Furrybeard’s ship the right size but the children made a good job of it.

Annan Display

Mrs. Alexander left a comment for everyone:

“I loved reading your work about how super Annan is! I saw lots of people looking at your work in the Nursery window on the Day of the Region. They were saying, “What clever boys and girls they are in the Nursery.” I could not agree more!”

It really was lovely to see all the great work that you did and it made us realise what a lot of different, exciting things there are to do in Annan.

Captain Furrybeard Visits Nursery

The children in the Sunshine Room have continued to be motivated by their interest in pirates and the learning has been developed in several directions with the help of Mrs. Bell, our student teacher.
Pirate stories have been very popular, with some of the children keen to tell the stories themselves. They also received a letter from Captain Furrybeard who seemed to have left his telescope and hat in our Nursery and needed some help from the children. Maps, flags and telescopes were produced and the children had to think about how to make a new pirate ship for Captain Furrybeard. This, of course, involved measuring Captain Furrybeard to help us work out what size of ship was needed. As you can see, his ship worked out just the right size for him.
We had treasure hidden in the sand tray and there was some counting had to be done to ensure it was all found. Good turn taking skills were also shown as the children played a pirate game. We hope that you enjoy these photos of the children engaged with all the different pirate activities. As you can see, lots of valuable learning has taken place with Captain Furrybeard.

Nursery and Primary 7 Conga

At the end of last week Primary 7 went out to Beat the Street with some of the Nursery children. If you click on the link to Hecklegirth Primary School on the right, then click on the Primary 7 page you will see them doing the conga to make it even more fun to beep their cards.
Thank you Primary 7. The Nursery children had great fun.

Danielle and the Pirate Ship

Danielle’s family enjoyed the photos of the children making their pirate ship:

“lovely flag danielle we are so proud of you xx”

“danielle you look so good with your friends nice pirate ship”

The children did work very well together on this activity. It’s amazing what fantastic play can develop from a wooden box.
