Nursery and Primary 1 Hallowe’en Fun

Great fun was had last week with Early Years Hallowe’en activities. Primary 1 visited Nursery to decorate biscuits and Nursery children enjoyed craft activities in the Primary 1 classrooms. This was a great opportunity to build the confidence of the children to work in different environments and with different people. As you can see, they got right into the Hallowe’en spirit. Thank you Mrs. Lindsay and Miss Campbell for welcoming the Nursery children into your classrooms.

Story, Rhyme and Number Bags

Story, rhyme and number bags will be given out from this Tuesday 3rd November to those who would like them. These bags are designed to encourage your child to enjoy reading and numbers. Each story/rhyme bag has a book and a game or puppets connected to the story/rhyme. The number bags contain a game.
If your child attends morning Nursery sessions you can collect a bag at the end of the session from Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, in the Family Learning room opposite the school hall. Those attending Nursery in the afternoon can collect bags at the start of a session. Bags can be kept at home for a week and exchanged the following Tuesday. If anyone can spare twenty minutes to help Eileen check the bags, it would be much appreciated. We hope that lots of our families will join in with the activity bags “library”.

Goodbye Miss Awde

As well as it being the day of our Hallowe’en party, today was Miss Awde’s last day. She has spent three years in Hecklegirth Nursery as our Modern Apprentice and is now fully qualified. We are delighted for Miss Awde that she has passed her course but, of course, we are also sad that she is leaving us. The children gathered together yesterday for some photos as a fond memento for her and each child added their individual drawing to her card. We would like to thank Miss Awde for all the great work she has done in Nursery over the years and wish her well for the future.

Garden Teamwork

It’s that time of year when we need to clear our gardens and prepare for the winter ahead. Earlier this week a very busy little group of gardeners worked hard to empty the old soil from our raised bed to add into the digging and mud kitchen area of the Nursery garden. Great teamwork was in evidence and the children loved doing such an important job. Well done all those super helpers who joined in.

Hallowe’en Disco

We hope to see lots of Nursery children at the HFA’s Hallowe’en Fancy Dress Disco tomorrow night (29.10.15) between 6 and 7p.m when Nursery and Primary 1 children will be able to have lots of fun together. There will be games, a tuck shop, dookin’ for apples and prizes for the best dressed pupil as well as the disco. Please remember that parents must accompany their children. We look forward to seeing you there.

Pumpkin Carving

pWe hope that you are all getting your pumpkins carved and decorated for the competition. We have noticed one or two arriving in school and tomorrow is the last day to enter your pumpkin as they will be judged at 9.00 on Thursday 29th October. In the past we have had some super examples from Nursery so it would be great if lots of children took part again.

Thank You Theo’s Granny

At the end of last school year we were surprised and delighted to receive a very kind gift from Theo’s Granny. She gave us a very generous cheque and a lovely card to thank us for everything we had done for her grandchildren over the years.
We decided to let the children choose how to spend the money and asked them for suggestions of what they would like. After much discussion, it was narrowed down to three choices which the children then voted on to find the most popular. Graphs were produced in each Nursery room and it was clear to the children that the wooden fire engine, firefighters and fire station had the most votes.
Here are some photos from the end of last term of the moment when the boxes arrived and were opened up. As you can imagine, the children were very excited to see that their choice of resources had actually arrived and they were keen to help assemble them.
Thank you so much to Theo’s Granny for her very generous gift – these are resources that will last for years and will be a lovely reminder of your kindness and, of course, of your grandchildren.
