Christmas Card Competition Winners

Russell Brown MP has again run his Christmas card competition for senior pupils throughout Dumfries and Galloway. Here you can see the winners for The Stewartry Area being presented with their prizes in the Tesco store in Castle Douglas by Mr Brown on Saturday afternoon. Niamh in P.6 at Hardgate School (wearing a pink top) came third and we are all very proud of her achievement. The overall winner for the region has been printed for Mr Brown’s personal card and he has been very busy signing them all for posting to his many recipients.

Baking Bonanza P. 5,6,7

As part of their Victorian topic P. 5,6,7  baked Victoria sponge cakes. This activity allowed the children to use practical maths skills of weighing and measuring. They all made wedge shaped boxes from nets which they had to draw out accurately and decorate to take a portion of sponge cake home with them. The outcome of this activity was mouthwatering sponges and the request to do more baking again. Definately enjoyed by all!

Musical Madness !

Pupils in P5,6,7 enjoyed a very entertaining hour of musical interaction from LIVE MUSIC NOW. Chris and Tom from this company, which is a registered charity, are on a tour of the country involving children in schools with a musical experience focusing on pitch, pulse and magic. They listened to a variety of brass instruments from Tom, while Chris played along skillfully on the piano. The children were then involved in a variety of rhythmical activities. We will have 2 further visits next year from this company to bring awareness of the different instruments available for musical enjoyment.

Cool Curlers at Dumfries Ice Bowl

The pupils in P7 spent Friday morning (23rd Nov) being given the basics in curling. They then went on to play against the  children attending from 2 other schools fom the area. These coaching sessions are intended to introduce the children to a sport which they may otherwise not have the opportunities to try out. It is hoped that they will have been sufficiently enthused to go along to the Junior training sessions available.

Children In Need – November 2012

The boys and girls in P. 5,6,7 have been hard at work raising money for this years Children in Need Appeal. We had a ‘Spotty Dotty Day’, wearing spotty clothes, a ‘Fat Friday’ bring and buy cake stall and we also had a raffle. The top raffle prize was a very tasty looking PUDSEY cake, kindly donated by Frances’ aunt. Jack in P5 was the lucky winner.
