Electronic Learning Passports

The parental session to get you up and running with the electronic learning passports is this Wednesday 11th September 3.30-4.30 p.m. (after the Come & Join Us afternoon). If you cannot make the session, please find the guide below. You will need your child’s logon details from their class teacher before you start: this is for data protection.

If you have any issues or require more help, please contact your child’s class teacher.

There will also be a Drop In  Clinic on Wednesday 25th September: the class teachers will be available between 3.15 and 5 for any queries you have with regard to your child’s learning. This includes the learning passport as well as curriculum such as literacy or numeracy.

School Improvement Plan April 2019

Many thanks to all those parents and carers who completed the parental survey. The feedback was collated with the pupil and staff responses, and has been used to develop the School Improvement Plan for next session. The full School Improvement Plan can be found under the Calside- Our School link on the right.

The main areas are as follows:

Building Shared Standards and Expectations in Literacy and Numeracy

We have now fully updated our Literacy and Numeracy tracking in line with the national guidelines, and this will be implemented from August. We continue to refine our key assessments in order to track progress and identify next steps, allowing pupils to apply and transfer their skills across their learning. We will be continuing to work with our partners within Dumfries High School cluster in this area.

We will be reviewing our parental sessions and homework in order to offer further advice as to how to support your child in their learning. These will be refined throughout the year using your feedback.

The library will be used to support pupils in the development of a love of reading: watch this space!

Excellence and Equity for All Our Learners

The whole school will be working on the playground development over the next few months, in order to make playtimes a positive experience for all. The children will help to devise rules for the zones. In conjunction with this, Mrs Cairns will be working with the Pupil Council to review our Positive Behaviour policy in line with the revised national legislation.

Following the trial of the electronic learning passports in P3 and P4 this term, we will review these and we hope to implement these across the school from August. This should help us to share learning between home and school more easily, and ensure that we are aware of all the pupils’ wider achievements and successes.

We will continue to use the Pupil Equity Funding to deliver tailored interventions across Literacy, Numeracy and Health & Well-Being, and will also be reviewing the Support for Learning paperwork in order to make this more accessible for pupils and parents.

We will also be updating our tracking for all areas of the curriculum, drawing on the expertise of our specialist teachers to refine our learning programmes to ensure all learners get the chance to shine!

 

Issues with online social media

We are aware that the latest negative internet trend is now being discussed by pupils in the school and indeed some of our children have unfortunately experienced this. I understand this has caused a great deal of upset for both children and parents.

PC Irvine was in school on 5th February to discuss online bullying and internet safety with children and to remind them of the ages which they should be to access these. The National Online Safety website has a series of parental guides on many of the social media platforms and you may find this useful. Their guide to the current MOMO trend is shown below.

Whilst we do everything in school to minimise the effects of these sites and trends, I would ask that you are vigilant when your children are online to ensure they are not subject to viewing such social media trends.
