Positive Behaviour at Calside Primary

At Calside Primary School, we employ an assertive discipline policy with four fundamental beliefs:

  • All pupils have a right to learn.
  • All adults have a right to be able to do their job.
  • All adults have a responsibility to promote good behaviour.
  • All children can behave.

The policy was updated by pupils, the Parent Council and staff in November 2023 in line with updated guidance from Dumfries and Galloway Council., and was shared with parents accordingly: Respect for All Behaviour Policy Nov 2023

The policy incorporates the national Respectme guidance on anti-bullying. Parents can find out more about this guidance at https://respectme.org.uk/adults/ This site also includes advice for parents to support young people and to help keep them safe.

All the classes have explored the themes within the policy during class lessons on Health & Wellbeing, and revisit these themes through the curriculum as well as through school life and ethos.

We are currently trialling the use of Class Sways to share learning with parents/carers. Within these, you can find class newsletters, homework guidance and information about our learning. Previously we used ClassDojo to share wider achievements and success with learning targets,  and parents were encouraged to add photos/ videos/ text to these passports so we could all celebrate successes. Following the Class Sway trial, we will refine what is included within the Sway, and also develop alternative ways of sharing progress and wider achievements. In the meantime, parents are encouraged to continue to share these via email to the class teachers.
