As part of our learning on the human body we have been learning about the heart and the important job it does.
We carried out some experiments to help us understand how the heart works. We tried to find our resting heart rate by placing our fingers on our pulse and made models to show how the heart pumps blood around our body. When the wall of the heart contracts it pushes oxygenated blood out and sends it to every cell in the body through the arteries and tiny capillaries. Once the oxygen has been used the blood travels back to the heart through the veins.
We really enjoyed making our models and pumping the ‘blood’. By creating a valve we prevented the liquid from mixing or traveling back in the same
direction. We recorded what we did and what we used in mini lab reports.
