Class Trip – Dundee Ice Arena

On  Monday 26th June, P7 went ice-skating at Dundee Ice Arena as part of an end-of-term treat.

Everyone had lots of fun developing their confidence on the ice and mastering some very impressive ice-skating skills.  It was great seeing less confident pupils overcoming their nervousness on the ice and by the end of the mornings’ session, the whole class assembled in the middle of the rink for a group photo.

Well done boys and girls!

Newspaper Article Analysis – Fact V Opinion/Balanced V Bias

As part of our Literacy this term, Primary 7 are studying the layout and organisation of newspaper articles. We are studying effective headlines which grab the reader’s attention, fact v opinion and balanced v bias.

Pupils chose newspaper articles which are of interest to them and highlighted 2 facts and one opinion in each article.  They were asked to share their findings with the rest of the class.

Over the next few weeks, P7 will carry out independent research on a famous person of their own choosing. This task has helped to remind pupils that sometimes information acquired through the internet and the media may be misleading as it may be based on personal opinion or bias.

Entrepreneurs of the Future

As part of our Enterprise Education, P7 are working collaboratively to decide what they should make and sell at our School Summer Fare to be held on Saturday 3rd June 10:30-12:00.

P7 pupils generated lots of great ideas and as a class decided that we are going to decorate little trinket boxes to sell.  P7 will be given the chance to buy the trinket box they decorate, the remaining boxes will be available for other classes/families to buy.

In numeracy this term, we are learning about Financial Education, Budgets, Profit and Loss and Debit and Credit Cards.  Pupils will consider the cost of materials and decide on a “fair price” to sell the trinket boxes.

We hope you can pop along to our Summer Fayre to support our school’s fundraising efforts 🙂 Thank you.

Scooting Skills

On Thursday 27th April 2017, P7 were given the chance to try out the new scooters and scooter track which has been painted in the upper school  playground.

P7 had lots of fun and were keen to show Mrs Robertson their skills.

Classes will be given regular opportunities to go outside and use the scooters each week.

Fire Brigade Visit – Monday 24th April 2017

P7 at the engine

Today, P7 were visited by Firefighters from Blackness Road Fire Station.

They showed us a DVD regarding wheelie bin fires and house fires. Pupils learned that wheelie bin fires can take up firefighters time when there may be a house fire that they can be attending.  This was a hard-hitting DVD as sadly 2 people lost their lives due to the fact that the fire engines were trying to put out the wheelie bin when the call came through for the house fire so they did not get to the house quickly.  The DVD was made by former pupils of Connect 5.

At the end of the presentation, P7 were invited to go outside to see the fire engine and they were excited to be given the chance to sit inside and try on the breathing apparatus and use the walkie talkies.  Mollie was given permission to talk to someone in the control room.

Thank you Blackness Fire Station for our visit.
