In Miss Douglas’ literacy and language group we have been learning about discussion texts.

We learnt the meaning of the words ‘balanced’, ‘opinion’ and ‘conclusion’.

We shared our opinions on different topics and some of us changed our minds when we heard what other people had to say.

We wrote our own discussion texts on whether break times should be longer, we voted ‘yes’!

We then prepared for a debate on what animal makes the best pet. We created a mind map with our partner and wrote down some of the good and bad things about having cats or dogs as pets.

We then took part in a debate for mock TV programme ‘Telly Talkers’. Sky and Ruby J started off the debate with some opening statements and then we all took turns to share facts and opinions of our own. We listened to each other and responded respectfully.

At the end we had a vote on which animal makes the best pet and each animal received the same number of votes. We love cats and dogs! 😊
