P4 Enterprise Summer Fayre Success!

Over the past few weeks we have been busy preparing for the Summer Fayre. We decided to make playdough and run a ‘Guess the Teacher’ competition. We made the playdough, designed labels and helped to package the finished product. We really enjoyed selling it and were pleased to see it all go at the fayre on Saturday. We also got lots of people thinking with our ‘Guess the Teacher’ board. All together we made £74 for the school!!

Well done , P4.

P.E

We have been practising our balancing and rolling in gymnastics this week. We linked together all the movements we have learned this term to create sequences. We  watched each other perform before giving feedback in the form of 2 ‘stars and a wish’. We were really impressed with the variety of shapes and balances and how still our classmates were while balancing in their groups.

Other activities from this week!

This week we took our usual fortnightly trip to the Menzieshill Library. We swapped our books and read for a little while. The librarian commented on how polite and well-behaved we were which makes Miss Douglas and us feel very proud.

We also went out for another session on our new scooters. We tried our best not to bump into each other and to look where we were going. It was lots of fun and even Miss Douglas had a turn!!

P.E

In P.E this week we focused on popular gymnastic travel movements such as the releve, skip, battement and chasse. As we practised these we tried hard to extend our bodies and not wobble! We know that we can make these movements even more interesting by changing our speed, pathway, level and the size of the step we take.

We spent time exploring these movements by travelling around the gym, using the floor and some apparatus.

We are becoming more confident and more aware of our bodies as we move and change shape.

Titanic

This term P4 really wanted to learn about the Titanic ! This week we started by looking at the ship’s construction and White Star Line (the shipping company behind it).

We looked at the events before, during and after the disaster and sorted them into a timeline. We also looked at the first, second and third class areas on the ship before writing facts about some of the ship’s most notable passengers. We really liked the sound of “The Unsinkable Molly Brown”.

We are really looking forward to finding out more about the Titanic and life during that period.

Data Handling

We have been learning about data handling in maths. We started out by exploring bar graphs, pictograms, tables and charts and answering questions about the information within them. We then came up with questions of our own and carried out surveys in class. After that we displayed the data we collected in bar graphs and made up some questions about them for our friends to answer.

We will try displaying data in other ways next week. 😊

Gymnastics

We have been practising balancing and making shapes in P.E. We used a variety of movements to create short sequences in our groups. We are getting better at putting weight on different parts of our body while squeezing our muscles and stretching our fingers and toes.

Symmetry

In maths this week we have been learning about symmetry. We know what a line of symmetry is and that some shapes and patterns may have more than one. We identified lines of symmetry by drawing and folding and created our own symmetrical pictures. It has been a busy week. 😊
