Primary 5 Home Learning

Home Learning

Numeracy and Maths

1) All learners have access to the Sumdog website https://www.sumdog.com/user/sign_in . Login details are on the inside page of their diary.

2) Practise and learn the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables.

3) There are lots of games on the Topmarks Website https://www.topmarks.co.uk/

4) Write multiplication sums – try multiplying 2 digit numbers by 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. If you can do this, challenge yourself by multiplying 2 digit numbers by 6, 7, 8 or 9.

You could also challenge yourself by multiplying 3 or 4 digit numbers by 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. You can make up your own calculations. Here are some examples below:

34                  61                   95                   39                   748                 5910                x 2                 x 3                  x 5                x 10                  x   3                  x     5

5) Write division sums – try dividing 2-digit numbers by 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10.

27 ÷ 3=          32 ÷ 4=          16 ÷ 2 =         45 ÷ 5=          90 ÷ 10=       9 ÷ 3 =

6) Practise multiplying and dividing 2-digit numbers by 10 and 100. Use a place value chart to help you. You can make up your own calculations. Here are some examples below:

23 x 10=                    46 x 10 =                 25 x 10 =                39 x 10 =

23 x 100=                  46 x 100 =                 25 x 100 =                 39 x 100 =

670 ÷ 10 =                8700 ÷ 100=            760 ÷ 10 =                1200 ÷ 100 =

7) Practise your multiplication and division fact families for the 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10 times tables. See example below:

3 x 6 = 18      18 ÷ 3 = 6

6 x 3 = 18      18 ÷ 6 = 3

8) Make your own Venn diagrams. You can use things that you find around your house.

7) The BBC Bitesize website also has lots of games and activities. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/z826n39

8) Please see https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/maths/ for numeracy and maths activities.

Literacy

1) All learners have a school library book. Try to read every day. This can be any book of your choice.

2) The BBC Bitesize website has lots of games and activities. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/zv48q6f

3) The Topmarks website has games for punctuation, verbs, nouns, adjectives and spelling. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/english-games/7-11-years/spelling-and-grammar

For example:

– Verbs in Space https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/grammar/verbs.htm

– Sentence Detectives http://resources.hwb.wales.gov.uk/VTC/sentence_detectives/eng/Introduction/default.htm

4) You can do some writing at home:

– Write a description of your favourite chocolate bar. Don’t write the name of it. Show it to someone at home and see if they can guess which one it is based on your description.

– Write a description of your favourite fruit or vegetable. Don’t write the name of it. Show it to someone at home and see if they can guess which one it is based on your description.

– Write a description of your favourite toy or game. Don’t write the name of it. Show it to someone at home and see if they can guess which one it is based on your description.

5) Write an imaginative story. Remember to use lots of adjectives to describe the nouns and use interesting verbs.

6) Please visit Oxford Owl for links to ideas for literacy learning, eBook library and activity suggestions. https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/

IDL

1) We have been learning about The Scottish Wars of Independence. Learners know how to create a PowerPoint presentation. All learners have access to PowerPoint through their Glow account. Their Glow login details on the inside page of their homework diary. Learners could create a PowerPoint presentation about the Scottish Wars of Independence. You could make it about The Battle of Stirling Bridge, The Battle of Falkirk, The Battle of Bannockburn or a key person involved in them such as Margaret Maid of Norway, King Alexander III, John Balliol, William Wallace, Edward I or Robert the Bruce. Learners could use the facts they already know and use the internet to research. Learners have practised using their internet research skills in class.

3) The BBC Bitesize website has video clips on each of these that you can watch and information that you can use to help you with your presentation.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8g86sg

4) You can make a fact file about William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, Margaret Maid of Norway, King Alexander III, John Balliol or Edward I.

Health and Wellbeing

1) Practise your throwing and catching skills.

2) Search “The body coach- kids” on Youtube and complete exercise videos.

Learning Update

Primary 5 had a super week!

In Literacy, we have continued to enjoy reading Fantastic Mr Fox. We also wrote an imaginative story this week, imagining we were a soldier in the Battle of Bannockburn.

In Numeracy, we have continued to work on multiplying and dividing, focusing on our 3 and 4 times tables.

We created a routine with sticks in outdoor numeracy to help us remember out 3 and 4 times tables.

We also practised our skip counting in outdoor numeracy.

We also learned how to multiply and divide by 10 and 100.

In PE, we played against our peers in a class Benchball tournament, putting our throwing, catching and passing skills into practice. We also learned more about SHANARRI and shared our thoughts and feelings during Circle Time and completed a health and wellbeing booklet.

We continued to learn about the Battle of Bannockburn, completing a fact file in our co-operative learning groups.  We used digital technologies to research facts and figures.

We also shared our learning about the Scottish Wars of Independence at our school assembly.

Learning Update

In Numeracy this week we have been learning to multiply and divide by 3 and 4. We used concrete materials to help us and were able to complete multiplication division fact families. Some of us even created our own word problems.

In Literacy, we have continued to read Fantastic Mr Fox. We also wrote some super imaginative stories based on a Scottish mythical creature.

We have continued to learn about the Scottish Wars of Independence and this week we focussed on the Battle of Bannockburn. We created a drama based on a scene from the Battle. We used our super shields (that we created last week) as props.

In PE we continued to practise our throwing, catching, passing and blocking skills on Monday. On Tuesday we used these skills when playing Benchball.

In Health and wellbeing, we continued to learn about healthy eating. We created a meal that included at least 3 different food groups. We listed the ingredients and identified which food group each ingredient belonged to.
