Week beginning 26.08.19

Hello everyone!

Primary 5 have had another super week packed with lots of learning!

On Monday, we were doing some super moving and dancing with Glen. We were moving around the room like we were astronauts on the moon! We also created our own alien, thinking about how it would move and any noises it would make. This all links well with our space theme this term!

In Literacy, we have been reading more of Charlotte’s Web. Wilbur the pig has finally met Charlotte now. We hope they become good friends. We have also been practising to write sentences using the correct punctuation.

In Numeracy, we have been looking some more at numbers up to 10, 000. We can now confidently explain the link between a digit, its place and its value in any 4 digit number.

In French, we have been continuing to practice more of our greetings. We also learned how to introduce ourselves and ask somebody what their name is. Miss McInally was really impressed with our fantastic French accents and enthusiasm!

We have also been learning lots more about space! We can now name all the planets (in order!) and describe their size, colour and other features. We also started learning about the Apollo 11 moon landing and found out some very interesting facts! For example, did you know it took 4 days for Saturn V rocket to get to the moon?

Until next week!

Week Beginning 19.08.19

Primary 5 have had an excellent start to the year!

This week we have been continuing to make our new routines and getting to know each other.  We have also been busy learning lots of new things! We have an exciting new Math programme that we have just started. We get our own workbooks, which are cool and fun. In Math this week, we have been learning to count to 1000 in groups of ones, tens, twenty-fives and hundreds. We also started counting in thousands up to 10,000!

In Literacy, we have started reading our class novel- Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. It is a story of friendship between a pig and a spider, who live on a farm.

In French, we have been learning different greetings and different answers to the question “How are you?” We are really good at practising our French and Miss McInally says we have a super accent.

We have also started learning about space this week, which is really interesting! We created a piece of art using black card and oil pastels, inspired by the view of Earth from the window of the International Space Station.

Next week we will be doing lots more interesting work and continuing to work on being our best self, inside and outside of our classroom.
