Anti-Bullying Week

This week we did some work for anti-bullying week.

We talked about how people are just like icebergs! Like icebergs, there are only some things about us you can see on the surface, but there are lots of things going on underneath. You might not be able to see these things and you might not know about all of them but it’s important to remember they are there.

We drew our own icebergs, and thought about the things on the surface and the things underneath. We realised that there is lots we have in common, but we are all unique and should be kind and respectful to one another.

We joined the #chooserespect anti-bullying campaign run by respectme.org.uk and pledged to choose respect.

We talked about what to do if we or someone we know could be being bullied. We decided the best things to do were to tell a trusted adult and to be kind to the person who is being bullied.

Then we came up with our own anti-bullying slogans. These included “bullies ain’t big” (one of our Rookie Rockstars songs), “boo to bullies”, “no bullying”, “stand up to bullies” and “no to bullies”. We made anti-bullying wristbands including our slogans.

Outdoor Classroom Day

During outdoor classroom day, P4M and P4B worked together in small groups to create a piece of art. Each group was given a card with a photograph of either an animal or bird from around the Ochils and River Forth. We then had to use natural resources to create our own pictures of the wildlife.

In our groups we explored the playground, and found natural resources including leaves, sticks, flowers and berries to create our wildlife pictures. It was tricky to find all of the right colours to match to the photographs.

Then we worked together to decide the best way of creating our pictures. We placed the leaves on the paper and tried to decide how we should use them.

When we were happy with them we glued them on and used pens to add detail. Here are some of the finished pictures, don’t they look brilliant?

Gymnastics

This week we’ve been really busy with Rookie Rockstars and getting ready for Halloween. It’s amazing we’ve managed to fit anything else in at all!

As part of PE, we’ve been learning about gymnastics. This week we worked in pairs to come up with a gymnastics routine. Our routines have six moves and had to include at least one roll, one jump and one balance. Next week we’ll be perfecting our routines and trying to remember the moves.

Here are some photos at us hard at work deciding  which skills to show off and planning our routines.

The Secret Tunnel

This week we’ve been learning more about the River Forth. We’ve learnt where it begins and ends, the type of water present in the river, about the islands in the river, how it was formed and its history.

We read a newspaper article all about a secret tunnel underneath the river. We explored this in pairs, then worked together to complete some activities. Here are some photos of us hard at work.

Rookie Rockstars

We are all really excited about Rookie Rockstars coming to our school next week.

This is the information leaflet sent home today about the programme. Please note the shows will be done in houses- blue willow and yellow oak on Tuesday the 6th of November at 6.30pm and red rowan and green elder on Wednesday the 7th of November at 6.30pm.

Homework

I’ve sent home a sheet with details of a piece of topic related homework. This is due on Thursday 25th October. The children will have the opportunity to share their learning on the 25th and 26th of October.

Please note,  this isn’t due until Thursday 25th October. We decided that since it involves a wee bit more work we’d send it home early just in case anyone is feeling particularly keen!

Looking forward to seeing the end results.

Term One

What a busy term we’ve had in P4B. We’ve learnt about place value, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, adding two digit numbers, Islam, pheasants, vardos, chimney sums, reading tools, French numbers, creative writing, mountain formation, engineering, sustainability, problem solving skills… the list goes on.

We are definitely ready for our holidays now!

Hope everyone has a lovely week off and well done for all of your hard work so far.

Islam

This term we have been learning all about Islam as part of RME.

Today Mrs Usman and her sons came in to tell us all about Islam and her experiences as a Muslim.

Here’s a photo of us learning how Muslims pray.

“We learnt that Muslims wash their whole bodies to keep clean before they pray”- Karla

“Muslims have a carpet that they pray on”- Jake

“There are 1.45 billion muslims in the world”- Charlie

“Muslims wear special clothes in the mosque”- Harley

“It was amazing and interesting and fantastic!”- Kayleigh, Elinor and Amanda

“There was good singing in Arabic, it tells Muslims it’s time to go to the mosque”- Adam W, Blair and Mathew

We were really grateful to the Usman family for joining us, it has really helped us learning about this topic.

The River Forth

P4 were lucky enough to have a visit from Mr Smith this week. Mr Smith works at the Smith Museum in Stirling and came to tell us all about the river Forth. We learnt all about the geography of the Forth and the history of the bridges. We loved learning more about the Forth and it has given us lots of new ideas about what else we’d like to learn as part of their topic.
