Measure

p4B have been working on measure. We’ve been looking at weight, volume and length, participating in practical activities as well as looking at conversions.

Here we are exploring weight.

We used different types of scales to record the weight of various things around the classroom, compare the weight of two objects and to balance an object with small weights.

And here we are exploring measure.

We had to measure and compare the measurements of various items around the classroom, parts of our bodies and things in the wing. We had to choose the best measurement tool each time and the best unit of measurement.

2D and 3D shape

Last week we were busy revising 2D and 3D shape.

We went out into the playground to find some 3D shapes. We worked in groups and recorded what we saw and where we saw it. We even found one shape we hadn’t seen before- the bike sheds are quarter cylinders!

Here we are on a shape hunt:

Here we are exploring 3D shapes in the classroom. We were counting edges, vertices, flat and curved faces and edges:

And finally we did some work on tiling. We talked about which 2D shapes would be best for tiling and worked out how to fit them together. It required lots of patience and a ruler! Here we are some work in progress pictures:
