MILD: LITERACY & HWB : Sky High #2

Yesterday we talked about our ambitions and dreams something we could reach for in the sky.

Today we are going to look at the skills and qualities we have ourselves to help us reach that target. Have these discussions while you are taking the time to look at the sky.

To reach the ambition in the sky, we are going to need wings, your wings are made of words that the meaning relates to you.

Follow the steps below in the sway to complete part 2.

Remember this can be a drawing activity too and also send in your work to your teacher through seesaw or email.

MILD: Numeracy: Counting in

We are looking at Counting In on the grids this week. This could be counting in 1’s 2’s 5’s 10’s 3’s and so on.

We can start from one and focus on counting on from there or you may like to challenge yourself and select a number in the 100 square and start from there.

Follow the sway below for an activity idea you can do at home. There is a variety of ways you can do this jigsaw style art. I have just given you the instructions to follow one method.

Remember that if you complete this activity to take a photo and send it to your teach via email or seesaw.

MILD: Literacy & HWB : Sky High

This week’s sky journal is going to focus on ambition. Thinking about our dreams and big goals and where we want to go. We can take great inspiration from our health heroes thinking about what they have achieved after leaving Methlick.

You could do the same!

The sky seems to always be quite far away, something people will rarely be able to touch. We are all under the same sky and we all have big hopes and dreams.

I want you to think about what is one of your big dreams what would you like to do or be when you are older. It could be a small goal or a big dream.

Over this week we are going to be doing a photography task looking at how we can… REACH FOR THE SKY… and aim …SKY HIGH…

Our first post has focused on talking about our big dreams, so I want you to take a picture of the sky. On whatever device you are taking it I would like you to edit it. As we are going to add some writing, you can type or use the brush and I would like you to put somewhere high in sky that big or small ambition you are thinking about. I have put up a few examples, one which I have now and one from when I was little.

You could also complete this task doing a hand drawn picture of the sky writing in your goal at the top, or cut out letter from a magazine or newspaper and stick them to the top.

Although this is a simple task today you can have a great discussion with family talking about what your big dreams are and how you can …REACH FOR THE SKY…

Here is my sway on my Sky journal writing.

Next time we will add the next part, thinking about how we get there. Because, in the words of my favourite Disney princess ‘Tiana’ “The only way to get what you want in this world is through Hard Work” and we will talk more about hard work next time.

Well-Being Wednesday: Mr.Mutch vs Mr.Reid… Not Here

They’ll Be Back… Soon

We Promise!

Mr.Mutch and Mr.Reid both needed to pause production of their Web-Show to focus on the Big Night In.

Mr.Mutch and Mr.Reid are both working really hard to get everything together for the Special Event

They can’t wait to enjoy Friday Evening with you all!

They are really happy with the reception that the Web-Show is getting but at times the teachers struggle to think of a challenge. Do you have any ideas?

Mr.Mutch and Mr.Reid look for challenges that everyone can take part in. Challenges that people can submit a score, time or distance rather than a who did it better task.

Follow the link to the Microsoft Forms Survey to complete and give us some ideas.

Or Follow the QR Code:

While you wait you can watch back your favourite episode with our playlist on the Methlick Youtube Channel.

Well-Being Wednesday: Mr.Mutch vs Mr.Reid #4

MR.REID IS ON A MISSION!

The teachers are back and this time they are back outside.

Last week’s challenge was really hard but we can tell most people certainly had a growth mindset and took on the power of ‘YET’. Families were messaging saying that they were spending the whole week trying and trying again. Even though some of you didn’t manage it is important to know that you never gave up. Maybe, one day you will be able to build the tower.

This week we learn about how Mr.Reid is getting on in lock down. I wonder how he is feeling?

Mr.Mutch vs Mr.Reid @ Methlick #4

This Week’s Challenge

Skipping

You will have 60 seconds to skip as many times as possible on the sport.

Enjoy this week’s episode and don’t forget to send in your scores and find out where you place on the leader board next week.

Maths: MILD: Subtraction #1

Today we are going to be having a closer look at Subtraction.

For some this might be new, so we should all take time to talk about what we are thinking to our family. Remember when we are struggling or making mistakes we know that we are learning and our brains are working hard.

The focus of today will be on the language and discussion of what we are doing when we subtract or take something away. For this you can use any amount of objects it could be toys, coins or even some natural objects you find outside.

Follow the sway below.

Our next step is to focus on writing it down and using written numbers when we use practical materials.

Literacy: MILD: Pete’s Emotions

Time to look closer into our Featured Story ‘Tidy’

Take the time to read our featured story again, but this time pause each time when something new happens to Pete.

If we think back to our last featured story ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’, each crayon wrote a letter expressing their personality and emotions. But in ‘Tidy’ we don’t really get a chance to hear from Pete and how we is feeling.

That means we need to look at the pictures and words more closely.

Pete goes through quite a variety of emotions and there are many examples in ‘Day the Crayons Quit’

An activity you can do is ‘Hot Seating’

The person who goes into the chair, becomes one of the characters in this instance it could be Pete or one of the animals watching Pete in the forest.

Whoever is not sitting in the hot seat can ask you questions relating to what has happened in the story.

Think of a variety of questions that start with the W5 (Who, What, When, Where, Why)

Another activity is ‘Thought Bubbles’

You can take the emotions you were discussing with family in hot seating and use them in creating a thought bubble.

With a bit of paper draw out a thought a bubble and write inside what Pete or one of the animals might be feeling. Remember to explain why, when we discuss the answer to why it is a good idea to use the word ‘because’.

I have given this activity an attempt taking a photo of me holding the thought bubble and showing the emotion to match.

Can you guess which part of the story my photos match to?

I look forward to seeing how you get on, send in your photos of your thought bubbles or add them to your sway.
