Iceland Greenland Visit 2016

I applied in December 2015 to the Goldsmiths’ Company for an Education Grant.

Approaching a ‘big birthday’  I was keen to do something different, and, inspired by my interest in travelling to colder climes, I applied for funding to take me to Iceland and Greenland to look at another interest, Learning for Sustainability, in schools and communities.

I was invited to the Goldsmiths’ Hall in February 2016 for an interview. A fantastic venue and an interesting chat/interview in one of the beautiful rooms at the Hall. Following this, I was fortunate to be awarded funding to enable me to carry out my project.

It has been challenging to get the project up and running. It seemed a simple thing to contact schools in both countries and arrange school visits. However, there has not been a lot of communication back from my many emails, personal invitations or web-site links. Frustrating, but I have been able to find aspects of Iceland and Greenland life which will relate to the LfS work at Kemnay Academy and in the curriculum.

My trip itinerary has some fixed and some flexible time to allow for contacts made locally.

Oct 5 Flight to Reykjavik from Glasgow

Oct 5-7   Reykjavik ( visit to school and education department)

Oct 8-10 Sel (visit to Geysir and farming areas)

Oct 11-12 ( visit to Vik and glacier)

Oct 12 Flight to Nuuk, Greenland

Oct 12-14 Nuuk ( visit to school and local sights)

Oct 15 Flight to South Greenland – Qaqortoq

Oct 15-18 Qaqortoq ( visit to school and local sights)

Oct 18-20 Nuuk (visit to school)

Oct 20  Blue Lagoon visit and flight back to Scotland

I will no doubt have a wide range of experiences and will share these on the blog pages.
