The New Tour Guides

The new Tour Guides had their Launch last Friday (Friday the 22nd of June 2012) and it went very well!

We had to do it in the Big Hall because the castle was too wet so we so that meant we couldn’t have it at the castle. We each got different parts of the script and there were seats put out in the Hall so that our parents could watch and we all got shortbread and juice at the end!

Every one really liked our costumes and Mrs Sell took photos of each of us in our costumes!

P5b Open Day 26/4/2012

P5b are having a open afternoon for our parents because we missed it because of  swimming!

We are planning to use the Small hall for our Alice Liddel play.

Alice Liddel is a Victorian child. Lewis Carol based the book of Alice in Wonderland on her. We made a play of all the people in her family to show what it would have been like in the Victorian times.

When we got back took our parents around the classroom to show them all our impressionest paintings and showed them all our work on the Blog.

It was VERY sucessful!

Bridge Building

P5B have been making bridges with Miss Crawford as part of the project  Victorians. We have learned about the Tay Bridge disaster that took place in the victorian time over the River Tay.  The more the trains went over the bridge the more bolts loosened and on the 28th Dec 1879 the bridge collapsed and 75 passengers and the crew died. This happened because it wasn’t tested properly.

Heres a web link to find out more:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tay_Bridge_disaster

After looking at various bridge design of the Victorian period, P5B were given the challenge to build a bridge. The design brief required each group to produce a bridge which would allow access between two tables with a distance of at least 50cm. They would be tested to see how much weight their bridge could hold.  The class were allowed to use only K’Nex in the building process.

The groups made lots of  different models of bridges and some could hold a lot of books.

Chris’s tables bridge held 16KG!!!

Becky’s table held 15 maths jotters!!!

Nick’s table held 12 maths jotters!!!

Ross’s table held 5 maths jotters!!!

Felicity’s table held 3 maths jotters

Cameron’s table held 17 maths jotters
