Bee Happy

Classes at Gordon Primary have been taking part in workshops for the past two weeks as part of Huntly’s Wellbeing Festival, which will take place in Huntly from September 20th- 24th.

Classes have been learning, through games, about the importance of pollination and the part bees play in this. They have also been learning a “Waggle Dance”, similar to the dance that bees perform to inform each other where to find pollen. Pupils have also made costumes that they will bee able to wear at “The Swarm” parade .

Pupils are being encouraged to join in with the “The Swarm” parade on Sunday 23rd at 1.00 pm, from the town Square to Battlehill.

We hope you will all bee there!

Katumba

On Thursday the 6th of  September a Katumba band from Nepal came to our school to play their music!!!

Nepal is a country above India. The Himalayas are located in Nepal.

Their instruments sounded really good together. The musicians were really friendly and their instruments were really cool!! The band played drums, percussion, reed flute and stringed instruments.

Miss Conn’s Trip to Uganda!

As we all know Miss Conn went on a trip to Uganda and enjoyed the experience. She did an assembly to the whole school. She talked about the community there, the sports they like playing , the children there and the houses. She showed us some of the things they made,  like a skipping rope and a doll, even a football.  She also said that the children there were very happy.

She told us that she was going to keep a blog on glow, but she couldn’t when she was there because there was no reception. However she kept a diary while she was there and she is going to upload it to the blog. Here is a web link to the blog

Music Workshop

On Tuesday all of Primary 4 attended an introductory musical workshop in the Deveron Building. Mestre Allysson Velez from Brazil and Keith Cockburn fae Huntly, Scotland played traditional tunes from both countries. Allysson explained about samba music and sang some brazilian songs while the children clapped a rhythm. Some lucky children had a go at playing drums and other percussion. Keith played traditional scottish songs such as “Three Craws” “Coulters Candy” and “Ye canna shove yer granny af a bus.” The children enjoyed singing along!

P4 classes are really looking forward to their next workshops next week.

Olympics Competition

Primary 4 pupils last year were asked to draw a picture of an Olympic Sport. These pictures were put in local shops in Huntly for children to take part in a holiday challenge, finding the olympic pictures in shop windows around the town. People were also invited to vote for their favourite pictures and the favourite three won a prize . Well done to the winners.
