Transition

At Grange, we believe that transition is an extremely important time for your child as they prepare to move from nursery into Primary 1. This can be daunting and exciting at the same time for both your child as well as you the parents / carers.

In order to allow your child to familiarise themselves with their new environment we start transition in January where once a week children visit the Primary 1 classroom from 9-9.30 to play and socialise with existing Primary one children. Visits are increased gradually until the Easter break.

As we enter the summer term, sessions are increased and other areas of the school are also visited such as the toilets, the playground, the lunch / gym hall.

This year we have had our Playground Pals teaching existing P1 children how to play traditional games during golden time. P1 have then help the Playground Pals during the transition sessions to play these games with our nursery and playgroup children.

Transition concludes with our three Friday sessions, the first being a workshop about a little rabbit which is shown in the gym hall / FE lounge. The other two Fridays are spent playing in the classroom with a visit to a busy playground and the last one a visit to sit at a table in the lunch hall.
