The main area of work for Active Schools is to drive extracurricular participation in sport and physical activity. Volunteers are recruited to help support school and their staff in ensuring that young people have the opportunity to participate before, at lunchtime and after school. We monitor participation levels across all schools and this document shows the latest report for the term Jan-April 2019. Over the last full academic year 48% or Angus pupils participated in some form of extracurricular activity, and over 600 volunteers helped deliver these sessions across all our schools.

Active Schools is driving work around Leadership using sports and physical activity as the context. This document shows the options available to young people at secondary schools in Angus and they should contact their local Active Schools Coordinator for more information.

School Sport Competition is a key focus and we believe that this can be an opportunity for all young people given the right environment. The School Sport Competition Framework was developed across Angus, Dundee, Fife and Perth & Kinross to ensure we plan school sport in the right way with the right values, as outlined here.

We are also keen to engage parents in supporting their children’s participation in physical activity.  This poster highlights the ethos we are trying to create while encouraging and praising the children taking part.
