6.12.18 – 12.12.18

Festive greetings everyone!

This has been yet another busy week – lots has been happening.  First and foremost the boys and girls have been busily preparing for their Christmas show.  They have been working hard preparing songs and actions for the performance and I would have to say their hard work has certainly paid off! If you came along this morning you will have seen how wonderful they all were – Mrs Moir and I are very proud of them 🙂

Here are the delightful little P1M angels and our wonderful Joseph!

As well as busying themselves with preparations for the Christmas shows, the children have had their Christmas lunch and have also been getting very creative.  We have made a beautiful ‘snow globe’ baubles

and also some Christmas pudding cards.  The children told me it looks more like a potato so we made a class decision that they were Christmas potatoes – not puddings!!

You should already have the Christmas potatoes at home and the snow globes are currently sitting pretty on our class tree, but will be with you before the holidays 🙂

If you haven’t yet seen the P1-3 Nativity I hope you all enjoy it tomorrow and that everybody has a safe and relaxing weekend.

8.11.18 – 14.11.18

Greetings everyone!

It has been another busy week here in P1M.  Miss Wilson has begun her third week with us and has been super – taking lots of learning experiences and activities with the boys and girls.

On Monday we saw Robbie become our ‘star of the week’ for always listening and following instructions – Well done Robbie!  As well as this super news we were also chosen as star class in assembly 🙂 As a result we get to have the lovely shiny trophy in our classroom for a whole week!

Tuesday was a very busy day.  Miss Wilson taught us a little bit about the Hindu festival ‘Diwali’.  We heard a story about Rama and Sita and then we made masks and acted the story out.

Mrs MacKinnon filmed each part of the story and showed it to us in the class. It was really funny seeing ourselves on camera!

On Tuesday afternoon we had our second visit to the forest.  The sun shone for us this week which made building homes for hedgehogs a great experience.  We made sure the hedgehogs had a cosy home full of leaves, moss, ferns and even a few sticks.  Some of us ended up making hedgehog penthouses complete with garage and swimming pool!!

On Wednesday morning we got some new fine motor jobs.  Our favourite one was feeding the tennis ball monsters pom poms!!

Keeping in the theme of Diwali, Miss Wilson made ‘Diya lamps’ with this morning.  We warmed up a ball of clay in our hands and then shaped it into a bowl shape.  Some of us chose rain drop shapes, diamond shapes or round shapes.  Next we used clay tools to make patterns in our Diya lamps.

*Important Information*

In service day is Friday 16th November.  School will be closed to all pupils – enjoy!

Have a lovely long weekend everyone and we look forward to seeing you bright eyed and bushy tailed after three days off 🙂

1.11.18 – 7.11.18

We hope all the boys and girls enjoyed a super first few days back in term 2!

We learnt the sound ‘h’ and so we got to make our very own ‘hats’ ! h for hat.  Here we are with our fabulous hats on –

At the end of the week we were very lucky and played some Halloween games with Mrs Moir.  We had a go of ”dookin’ for apples’ (apple bobbing).  It was quite tricky but so much fun.  We had to kneel on a chair with our hands behind our backs and a fork in our mouths.  Then we had to drop the fork and try and stab an apple!  We had to concentrate really hard.

We are now entering our second week with Miss Wilson and she has been taking some lessons this week as well.  On Monday we learnt the sound ‘f’.  We worked out that fireworks start with ‘f’ and so Miss Wilson helped us make a firework picture.  Aren’t they fantastic?

If you look very carefully in our classroom at parents evening you might spot them!

In one of our maths sessions this week we learnt all about seasons and what different things happen in each of the four seasons.  We were able to tell Miss Wilson that we are currently in Autumn.  We know this because the leaves are changing colour and falling off the trees.

On Tuesday afternoon we had our first trip to the forest!  We wrapped up warm in our waterproofs and woollies (thank you and well done everyone for bringing appropriate clothing!) and set off out to the forest.  When we arrived we played ‘1,2,3 where are you?’ which is a bit like hide and seek.  We were so good at finding the boys and girls in P1/2 and we thought hiding was great fun!  Can you see us hiding?

Our main activity whilst we were in the forest was building our own team bonfires!  We had to collect lots of twigs and sticks to go on the bottom and then we filled the top with autumn leaves.  The leaves were the perfect colour to be our fire.

We very much look forward to our next visit to the forest.

*Important Information:

-Parents evening appointments are on Wednesday 7th November and Thursday 8th November – Mrs Moir and I look forward to seeing you all.

-Friday 16th November is an In-service so the school will be closed to pupils.

We hope you all have a lovely end of the week and a wonderful weekend 🙂

*P1M News:

Even though we have only been back 3 days the boys and girls got stuck back into a busy timetable.  On Monday morning we welcomed Miss Wilson into our class.  She is a student from the University of Aberdeen and will be with us for 4 weeks.  We started the week with assembly and learned our new sound ‘d’.  In the afternoon we sung some songs with Miss Hamilton.

Tuesday we got back into the swing of reading and all had some reading group time with Mrs MacKinnon or Miss Wilson.  On Tuesday afternoon we made pumpkin lanterns!  We had to do some decorating and very careful cutting.  What do you think of them?

On Wednesday we carried on with the pumpkin theme and we designed a pumpkin face with a partner.  We had to work hard to compromise and include both partners ideas to make it fair.

When we had finished our design we all voted on the best pumpkin eyes, nose and mouth and Mrs MacKinnon carved it into a real pumpkin!  Before she could carve we had to help her pull out the slimy, stringy insides!

After all the pumpkin carving fun we listened to Room on the Broom and then did a drama activity based on the story.

Mrs MacKinnon watched us very carefully whilst we listened to the story and did our drama job.  She was looking for the person who did the best listening and following instructions – that person got to take home our pumpkin!

Here we are with our pumpkin! Can you spot the photo where we are all pulling scary faces?

On Wednesday afternoon the fun continued. Mrs Moir let us design and create our own tiny pumpkins (tangerines!) so everyone could have one.  It was great fun and we got to draw our designs on the tiny pumpkin with a sharpie.

We’re looking forward to many more exciting weeks to follow!

Have a super week everyone 🙂

Mrs MacKinnon and Mrs Moir

3.10.18 – 10.10.18

It is the final week of term 1 and we don’t know how that has happened!  As you can see from the photos we have taken the boys and girls have had a very busy first term.  As the term has progressed they have become more familiar with the routines of school and are really coming along.

Here we are enjoying Golden Time with Mrs Moir

We have been learning about Noah’s Ark and this week the boys and girls had a go of building their own arks using the contruction materials.

When we return in Term 2 we are very lucky to be welcoming a student into our class.  Miss Wilson is an MA3 student from the University of Aberdeen who will be completing her placement with us for the first 4 weeks of term.

Also after the holidays our weekly forest visits will begin.  We will have our first trip to the forest on Tuesday 6th November (week 2).  Please see the letter sent home with you children to see which days you have been allocated to help.

Finally, it has been a super first term in P1M and Mrs Moir and I look forward to welcoming the children back after a lovely break.  Please all have a relaxed, enjoyable and fun filled holiday.

Thanks,

Mrs MacKinnon and Mrs Moir

27.09.18 – 03.10.18

Another busy week in P1M has past and now only 7 school days to go! Where has the first term gone?

This week our four star writers drew a picture and told a super story about a walk they had been on around our school.

At the end of last week the boys and girls were lucky enough to get to go along to see the ‘Road Safety Magic Show’.  They had a super time and learn lots!

On Monday the children went along to another singing session with Miss Hamilton.  They got to sing some very jazzy songs with fun actions!

We have been talking about the building work that has been going on outside the green unit and we thought it would be nice if boys and girls could find out a little more.  So on Tuesday morning one of the builders from the site came to join us.  He brought his builders shovel and told us all about his digger, hard hat and bright orange uniform. The children came up with some questions they wanted to ask the builder.

P1M were very busy straight away this morning with their fine motor jobs followed by music and movement with Mrs MacKinnon.  We had a go of playing some finger cymbals and then we took part in a drama activity all about under the sea.

Can you see us all swaying like the sea weed and swimming about like little Tiddler the tale telling fish?

We hope you all have a super weekend and look forward to the final week of term 1!

Mrs MacKinnon and Mrs Moir

20.9.18 – 26.9.18

Hello everybody!

We hope you have all had a lovely, relaxing long weekend.  Mrs Moir and I feel rejuvenated and raring to go!!

Open Evening on Wednesday was a great success and we really enjoyed meeting and speaking to all your Mummies and Daddies.  We could tell by the smiling faces and enthusiasm that all the boys and girls loved showing their grown ups our classroom and all their lovely jobs.

Even with the long weekend P1M have been really busy in school!  On Tuesday we were being scientists and we made a rainbow!  Just like the one in Noah’s Ark which is what we are talking about during our RME lessons.

The boys and girls were super scientists and worked hard with their friends to make a rainbow at every table.  When we had finished our experiment we made a list of the equipment we needed and also the steps we followed to make our rainbows.

In the afternoon we went out in the spitting rain and we ran our daily mile.  We had to do 4 laps of the outdoor track to make a mile.  We power walked round twice and then we jogged around twice as well. When we finished we were exhausted!!

*Important information*

-Homework is issued every Wednesday and needs to be returned the following Monday

-Please ensure your child’s block consent form is returned to school as soon as possible

We look forward to another exciting week here in P1M!

Thanks,

13.9.18 – 19.9.18

Well another week has past in P1M and it has been another busy one!

We had our first group of star writers who wrote a super story about a lollypop lady.

The boys and girls had a super time on Friday with Mrs Moir melting ‘i’cy ‘i’gloos and also building ‘i’gloos out of marshmallows!

On Monday we started our day at assembly where Jasmine became our star of the week! After snack we learnt our next sound ‘p’ and we made some pretty peacocks.  Mrs MacKinnon took us to the studio where we did yoga.  We were all super listeners and were able to follow all the moves Poppy the Troll was asking us to do.

On Tuesday morning we started with our fine motor skills – this week we were posting coins in a coin box, threading, popping bubble wrap and making numbers out of unifix cubes!

We then made some ‘p’lasticine ‘p’enguins to live in our marshmallow ‘i’gloos!  They love living in their igloos and will be out for everyone to see at open evening.

21 happy little penguins living in their igloos!

6.9.18 – 12.9.18

It has been another great week here in P1M.  The boys and girls have completed their first few full days of school and have managed well.  Being a primary 1 is hard work and can be very tiring, so make sure you are all getting plenty of well earned rest!

On Friday the children were all able to take part in a ‘Dress up Purple’ for CLAN.  Lots of the boys and girls came to school wearing something purple and lots of pennies were raised – Well Done Everyone!

Monday brought our first full day in P1.  The children began the day with assembly and Fraser was crowned this weeks ‘Star of the Week’ for being a super helper at tidy up time.   After their snack the children learnt their next sound ‘t’ and made their very own paper tee-pee’s!  In the afternoon we had our first singing session with Miss Hamilton.  We all loved learning funny songs and joining in with the actions.

Tuesday brought the introduction of our fine motor activities that we do at our tables when we have finished unpacking our bags in the morning.

We were busy screwing nuts and bolts, taking lids off jars, pegging our washing lines and threading pipe cleaners in colanders!

As well as fine motor skills in the morning we were practicing choosing play jobs off our play charts.  We are getting really good at remembering this and we know that they change each day so we have new play jobs to go to when we have finished our table jobs.

On Tuesday afternoon Mrs MacKinnon took us out to visit the ‘Daily Mile’ route.  We walked all around it so we know where to go when we start running our Daily Mile very soon!

On Wednesday Mrs Moir invited Mary the lollypop lady in to visit us. As we are learning about people who care for us Mrs Moir thought it would be a great idea for everyone to meet Mary and then write a story about what she does to help us.

We were very lucky as we got to see Mary’s special uniform and even got to hold her lollypop!

On Wednesday afternoon we visited the library with P5/6 for paired reading.  This was another new experience for us and we loved meeting our new paired reading partners and hearing them read us a story.

We look forward to another fabulous week here in P1M 🙂

Mrs MacKinnon and Mrs Moir
