22.2.19 – 27.2.19

Another week has gone by in P1M and as usual the children have been busy little bees!

In Golden Time on Friday they had a great time building and dressing up;

This week I have been delighted with the wonderful talks and posters that have been provided.  The boys and girls have delivered lovely talks about their favourite toys.  I hope the talks on Thursday and Friday are just as fabulous as the ones we have heard so far this week!

When delivering our talks we had to use a loud, clear voice and make good eye contact with our audience.  The audience members had to show the person talking that they were listening and gave positive feedback at the end of the talk. We asked questions to find out a little more about our class mates favourite toy.

On Tuesday afternoon the weather was beautiful! We spent the afternoon outside with P1/2.  When we were out we did our daily mile.

After our daily mile we learnt some ‘old fashioned’ playground games.  This was to link in with our ‘My Historical World’ topic.

We hope the sun continues to shine and look forward to another fun week in P1M.

-Please could the children all bring an old sock to school in time for Tuesday 5th March.  This will be used for an art craft – so it will not come home still resembling a sock!!

I wish you all a wonderful week,

Mrs MacKinnon

14.2.19-20.2.19

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a relaxing mid-term break.

The boys and girls returned on Thursday raring to go. They made beautiful tartan heart Valentine’s Day cards with Mrs Moir.

On Monday the children made lots of lovely phonics crafts; snails, sheep and plates of food!

The boys and girls have been working hard at home with their RM Easimaths – one of our boys has received his second certificate!

In ICT we have been getting creative on Microsoft Word! We now know how to change the size, colour and font  of our words.

On Tuesday we got very crafty and we made our own clocks – we now all know how to read o’clock on an analogue clock, and we made wind catchers! They were beautiful and colourful .

Week beginning 25.2.19 the children are to present a talk about a favourite toy. We can’t wait to hear them! (More information will follow in their homework jotters)

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your week,

30.1.19 – 6.2.19

Another busy week has gone by and as always the children have been enjoying some wonderful experiences!

We went to visit our paired reading buddies from P5/6 in their classroom. They helped us use a new maths program on the laptops.  We really enjoyed the RM easimaths and it was made even more exciting by our buddies joining us.

We have had a go at solving more problems in our maths slot with Mrs MacKinnon this week.  We had to see how many different outfit combinations we could put on the doggy.

Following this we had to see how many colour combinations we could find for the flags using the same 3 colours for the job.  We worked out that their were 6 different flag colour combinations.

On Tuesday afternoon we put our ‘science hats on’ and did some experiments with toy cars.  Our first experiment was testing how far a pull back car would go when you pulled it back a little way and then a long way.  We measured the distance using our feet.

Our next experiment was testing materials that the car could drive over.  We talked about ‘predictions’ as we had to predict whether the car would go fast or slow over a variety of surfaces.

We used a towel, a bean bag, a jumper, Mrs Simpson’s scarf, tin foil, the carpet and a table.  We decided that the smoother the surface the faster the car would go.

As it is Children’s Mental Health week this week we have been focusing on our feelings and emotions.  Last week we looked closely at fear and anger and this week we looked at sadness and joy.  As a plenary activity the boys and girls coloured in 4 different hearts to represent each of the emotions.  We talked about colours that would match each of the feelings and the children made beautiful pictures.
