In the afternoon nursery we have been really busy working on lots of fun activities this week. We have been learning about airplanes and making paper planes. We have then been using our measuring stick to measure how far they have flown. We have also been using lots of mathematical skills, not just to measure distance but measuring out water in our mud kitchen. The children had great fun working with different coloured water and mixing them to make new colours. The children were using mathematical language to estimate how much water they had in their container, was it empty, half full or full. Could they share some with a friend? As you can see below, they worked together to solve problems, shared and supported each other, even working together to put the outdoor tap on as it can be tricky.
We have also been working on our fine motor skills and have been threading colourful pasta to make necklaces and working on our scissor skills.
This morning in nursery some of our boys and girls showed off their great fine motor skills by threading the pasta through the wool to create their own necklaces. They also used great maths skills by creating different patterns with the range of colours that were available.
In nursery we are so busy. Every day we are running around, playing and having so much fun. But where is all the learning?
Well we want to share how busy all your children have been while learning about Math and Mathematical language.
We have been playing “What’s the time Mr Wolf?” and having to count how many steps we move forward.
Through our drawing we use Math to make sure our drawings have two arms, two legs and most of the time two eyes.
We look at the date every day at together time and we look at the date from today, yesterday and what tomorrow will be. We have to use Math to find out what number was before and what comes after. We also look at our visual timetable to see what we are doing each day.
We use Math when we look at cook books and measure ingredients. We use Math to share with our friends and make sure everyone has a piece of play dough or a bowl of soup at the mud kitchen.
We learn to recognize our numbers and the amount they represent, when they are written or on a dice.
We use Math to understand that our buckets are full in the sand pit.
To count how many rungs on the ladder we can climb and also to see how tall our block buildings are.
WOW!!! What a lot of Math we do and this is only some of the activities we offer your children.
What Math do you do at home?
Please share on your ILD.
The afternoon children enjoyed the rain yesterday and went on a search to find puddles around the school grounds. We popped on our wellies and our jackets and enjoyed some fun games. We had to stand on a colour spot, find a number and follow instructions. I think we all had a fantastic time!
Our Pupils of the Week are
Morning
Emilija – for having such a positive attitude in nursery all week!
Afternoon
Robert – for having great manner all week while at nursery!
Well Done!!
The children were doing lots of fabulous learning by exploring letters in the outdoor sand area.
They spent time identifying the letter sounds and some children created their names. The children gave each other lots of encouragement and praise.
The morning and afternoon boys and girls were happy to see their friends and the nursery staff today. It was so nice to see all the children and see their smiley faces. Its been a while since we have been at nursery and the nursery staff were amazed on how much the children have grown.
The children had fun in the nursery garden playing with their friends making lots of friendship circles. They had so much fun playing exploring the garden and using the outdoor equipment.
They also had fun cleaning the hopscotch with the hose making lots of splashes of water.
The Nursery Team
Good Morning everyone,
How are you all feeling today? I have thumbs up!
I am really excited as we have lots of fun things to celebrate over the next week.
We have Chinese New Year and this year is the year of the OX!
There are 12 animals in the Chinese Calendar one for each year. I wonder which animal you are?
You and your family can find out here.
Here is the story of how the years were named.
We also get to celebrate Valentines Day (14th February) and Pancake Day (16th February)!
Here are the boys and girls from the nursery assembly last year to tell you all about them.
Remember that we have no school/nursery until the 18th of February as it is our half term holiday.
