‘Cloth Uncut’ info pack for Commonwealth Games projects.

Below is a link to an info pack for all schools taking part in the CAST ‘Cloth Uncut’ commonwealth games art project.
If you haven’t signed up for the project, please feel free to use the info in the pack for any commonwealth games projects you may be planning anyway.

Commonwealth Games Resource Pack

Active Schools and the CAST team have joined together in partnership to develop this “Game On Argyll and Bute” pack to support your school to get involved in all the projects and programmes on offer over the course of this academic year leading up to the games. The pack is divided into Scotland wide generic information and Argyll and Bute specific projects and programmes divided into two sections of sport and culture. Free Samba Drumming for primary schools. (register NOW)

We are delighted to offer our samba project again from January to June 2014
What: a samba drumming project for p5-7 delivered by a music specialist, focusing on rhythm using Brazilian percussion instruments. In the last week of the block the children will have an opportunity to perform either to other pupils or an invited local audience.

CAST has recently been forming connections with the charity Filmclub (soon to be Filmnation UK), The Scottish Screen Machine and the Edinburgh Filmhouse with a view to developing a coordinated Argyll & Bute wide film education programme involving support from these three bodies. Argyll Collection Primary Writing Competition 2013

CAST is glad to announce the theme for this year’s Argyll Collection Primary Writing Competition. The competition is now in its third year and we are delighted to announce continued support from Scottish Book Trust.
2013 competition prizes:
1st prize: 5 books, 2nd prize: 3 books, 3rd prize: 3 books

The Ballad of Pondlife McGurk

They are new to Primary 6 but that’s the only thing they have in common.
Martin and Simon. Newcomers. One keen to fit in; the other doesn’t care.
A coming of age tale about friendship, bullying and overcoming adversity.
WHAT IT’S ABOUT

Creative interdisciplinary approach to teaching topics.

I recently attended a teachers CPD event run by Children and the Arts focusing on visual arts and storytelling.
The morning hands-on session consisted of a format easily replicable in class for second level which I wanted to share.
We took Greek gods and goddesses as the theme and started by looking at a real painting of a scene depicting Hercules rising through the clouds being greeted by Zeus etc. Continue reading Creative interdisciplinary approach to teaching topics.
