Kodu computer games design – getting started help

Kodu is a free application developed by Microsoft to introduce young people to computer games design.  This visual programming language allows students to design and build three dimensional games.  Kodu can help young people to learn the core concepts of computer science within the context of a project which includes narrative writing, design and maths.

What Can Kodu Teach?

  • logic and problem solving of programming without complex syntax
  • introduces programming principles such as conditions and sequence
  • builds real world, 21st century skills by challenging users to analyse a problem deeply and structure their solution – an approach applicable to all academic subjects, business and personal relationships

Who Can Use Kodu?

  • can be taught by any teacher, no previous programming expertise required.
  • provides very good peer learning opportunities.
  • Senior primary pupils typically have the most success.

  1. Hi Gary
You came to Rosneath before. Would you be able to do a bit of a refresher? Half of the children in my class have used Kodu, half have not. Or, perhaps children who were really keen from different classes could work together? Some of mine seem more keen now since Cardross won a prize in the national competition!!
    Thanks,

  2. Hi Gary
I wondered if you could come to Castlehill, Campbeltown to do some Kodu refresher work with my P7 class and an introductory workshop with our P6 class.

    Many thanks
