Tuesday 11th March saw Michael Russell attend our ‘Raising Attainment’ conference in Oban. The Corran Halls was the venue for this two day celebration of learning and teaching in Argyll and Bute, featuring many exhibition stands bursting with information on a huge variety of topics. Everything from Skills Scotland to Forest Schools was represented and Michael Russell made a point of visiting as many stands as he could before he delivered an inspiring keynote speech. Afterwards he visited our Learning Technologies stand run by Maggie Irving and Gary Clark where he met up with pupils from Dunoon who explained how they use raspberry pi, kudo and lego programming in school.
The conference also featured a keynote speech from Professor Don Ledingham and introductions from Cllr Aileen Morton, Carol Evans and Clelland Sneddon. 13 informative workshops covering a wide range of subjects were also held throughout the time in the Halls, each one being better attended than the organisers could have hoped for. Musical Performance popped up at regular intervals, all provided by pupil groups. The standard and enthusiasm shown by our young musicians impressed the crowd and left big smiles on all the delegates faces. The groups were: Oban High School Junior Novice Pipe Band, Park Primary Samba Band, Campbeltown Brass Ensemble and Hermitage Academy Fiddlers.
A film archive of the event will be available shortly and details will be posted on SAL and SALi.
