Today we started off PE with a chaos tig warm up before starting End Zone Ball. We were learning to catch the ball in two hands, use awareness of space, defending and developing our attacking abilities. Lots of different movements, successful touch on an attacker and moving in to better spaces after making a touch.
Paper Cutting and Folding lesson
Today we were identifying that shapes can change when cut in folds. We also continued to visualise, predict and check folded and cut patterns. We started off creating paper snowflakes to demonstrate this concept. Lots of great discussion stemmed from this work using the language vertical, horizontal and symmetry.
Today p4-7 had a super outdoor learning session from the Beecraigs country rangers service.
Today we had another active travel lesson on our scooters. Shane Davidov who is a professional cyclist has been teaching the children about other ways to travel to school.
Challenge Poverty week
This week we joined the Cost of the school day meeting online. This was useful in finding out other ideas we could possibly start up in school and how we can help others with rising costs.
The high school pupils and Mrs Shields from WCHS visited us this morning to explain a little more about living in poverty and what this means. This was a fantastic presentation for the children and it was great to see a few familiar faces.
Challenge poverty week is running from 5th October to 11 th October. In our soft start mornings we are discussing a different theme each day. Today’s topic was social security and what it means. We watched a BBC news clip on housing and read the story called “A place to stay.” The story helped to inform our class discussion and we also decided on a school poster competition to illustrate a safe, warm home.
Today we joined in with the live CPR lesson for primary pupils. This was fun and interactive and helped us to understand what we can do in an emergency situation.
