P5hp November 2022

P5hp children have been learning lots in the different lessons and we have been practicing for our Children In Need Assembly (Friday 18th November 2022)

We have been baking and learning financial education skills as part of our financial education focus. We have been deciding how much ingredients cost for our Pudsey Cakes as well as deciding how much to charge. Additionally, we have been discussing as a class how much each guess forĀ Guess the Sweets in the JarĀ should be. We have been working very well with p5mw to go round the different classes and advertise our Children in Need activities.

In numeracy, we have been exploring the x5,x6 and x7 tables. By the end of our term, we hope to recall most, or all, of our times tables instantly when asked. We will be practicing this regularly and it would be great if this was repeated at home. We have taken part in station-based activities to achieve the most from our learning.

We were lucky enough to create hanging ghost decorations for the school disco on Halloween, they looked very spooky!

Note for Friday: please practice your lines if you have a speaking part as well as practice any songs. Not long now!!

We also have been making some Halloween decorations which we have been enjoying. We made creative bats and well done to Konstancja for her winning pumpkin design!

Week beginning 07/11 – P7me

Literacy:

In literacy this week we have continued to look at information reports. After previously researching and finding out about the celebration of Black History Month, we are now looking at key activists, such as Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela, as well as significant events, such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This week we wrote newspaper reports on a significant event which are now displayed on our wonderful work wall!

Numeracy:

In numeracy, we have been looking at converting between fractions and decimals. We have been focusing on understanding decimal place value, converting between fractions and decimals, and simplifying fractions in their simplest form.

Topic/IDL:

This week was our last week of our Air Race Challenge. We created poster presentations about an influential and innovative figure in aviation. We have examples such as Sally Ride and The Wright Brothers, who we also looked at through comprehension. We looked at aspects such as their early life, personal achievements, and how they have influenced the world of aviation.

Other Achievements:

On Friday this week we performed our Remembrance Day Poppy Assembly to the whole school. Our leadership team then went to the poppy memorial with Mrs Angus, to sing our remembrance song and recite a poem.
