P7me 14.03.23

Literacy:

We conducted an experiment to see how soap dissolves micro-organisms such as bacteria, and then we wrote an explanation of what happened and why.  We have been completing independent comprehension tasks in our reading groups, based on a novel of our choice.  This has included tasks such as making 3D scenes from the book, creating animations, writing alternative endings and completing a book review.

Numeracy:

We have continued with our algebra and most of us are now able to simplify third level equations! We have used our times tables knowledge again to solve equations and find the value of x.  In Maths we have been revising our speed, distance and time knowledge to help us with our problem solving.

IDL:

The Dragon’s Den team were successful at the West Lothian event on the 27th February and we were awarded a grant to start our juice bar.  More details to follow next term!

We had a great day out to Dynamic Earth last Thursday.  The tour was really good, with lots of surprises along the way.  We learned lots about geology and the history of Earth.  The STEAM careers fayre was very interesting and we got to do lots of fun activities like deep dive with a VR device, hold small sea life creatures like crabs and starfish, and talk to people who work to conserve our oceans.

We are very excited about our P5-7 show!  We hope to see all of you on Thursday 16th March!

We have also been busy with our art work for the art exhibition which will be held on the 29th and 30th of March.  P7 have completed 4 pieces of art in the last few weeks and they will choose which one they think represents their best work for the exhibition.

We are also very excited about our bike-ability sessions which will start on Wednesday 15th March and every Wednesday until the end of term.  If your child has a bike of their own, then please bring it into school on a Wednesday along with a helmet, if possible.

We are hosting another coffee morning on Friday 17th March.  The proceeds will be split between Comic Relief and our buses for camp.  We are looking for lots of kind donations of home baking to help make it a successful morning and we hope to see you there!

A – I have enjoyed Netball in PE because it helps me to keep fit.

T – Circuits in PE has been really fun!

I – I really enjoyed our trip to Dynamic Earth and learning more about the geology of Earth.

P5mw Learn it! Log it! Blog it!

🌈 Welcome back everybody 🌈

P5mw have been busy this week.

We have been continuing to learn about decimals this week and how to convert fractions into decimals and also express them as percentages. We have been enhancing our learning using ICT, decimal games as well as completing written learning to evidence our learning. We have made real-life connections to our learning by looking at money, heights and weights. We hope to be really confident by the end of term showing off our fractions, decimals and percentages knowledge

As part of LGBT History Month, we have been learning about LGBT issues. We looked at what makes us unique as well as what it means to be an LGBT ally. We looked at and discussed some famous LGBT people in history and their contribution to society. We made some colourful rainbows too!

P6bc 21st February

In Primary 6bc we have been learning about Standing stones to do with our topic of Myths and Legends.  The children used oil pastels and their devices to create pictures of standing stone in oil pastels.

The children also created their own fantasy creatures with different powers.  Nathan says “My mythical creature is a green slime, it has the power to read minds when it touches someone”

Megan says “I made a ghost horse and it can go into people`s dreams to stop them from having nightmares.”

Everyone has enjoyed coming up with very imaginative ideas based on their previous research.
