Windyknowe ELC – 23rd September 2022

We have shown a keen interest in dinosaurs and we have loved sharing all our knowledge with our peers and the ladies. We are beginning to explore autumn after noticing our apples falling from the tree in the nursery garden. We have been peeling, cutting and making apple crumble with our very own apples. We will continue to explore autumn as the leaves fall from the trees and we are looking forward to our forest walk to collect some autumn materials. We are currently making our scarecrow which will be on display in the hall during our coffee morning, next Friday. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Primary 5MW 22.9.22

We really enjoyed our long weekend and have been working hard since we’ve been back at school

Numeracy and Maths

In Numeracy we are working on learning our times table facts. We have enjoyed playing lots of games. Please continue to practise these at home. In Maths we have been learning to tell times in 12 and 24 hours analogue and digital times and calculating time durations.

Literacy

We have been writing recounts. We wrote some great recounts about an adventure in Bathgate Hills for a writing competition. We have also been learning about homophones and synonyms.

IDL and other areas

We have been really enjoying our Topic about Natural Disasters. We have done some great Art Work linked to our topic with volcanoes in the style of Andy Warhol and tornado art. In PE we have been doing gymnastics. We have learnt lots of new balances and jumps.

Numeracy & Maths

We have finished our multiplication block where we covered lots and lots of different methods! We will continue to practise our times tables daily and the four operations through our class number talks.  Our next block is division which will cover the bus stop method with higher numbers and the chunking method.  In Maths, we have been learning about data handling. We have also just completed an Academy Assessment in Numeracy & Maths in preparation for our transition!

Literacy

In literacy, we have been writing recounts and we had a real crime scene set up to base our writing around where poor Mr Swift had been murdered! (pretend only!)  In French and Spanish, we have been learning numerical language and counting up to 100.  We are also learning BSL as part of our assembly which will be on Friday 30th September at 9am!

Other areas

During indoor P.E we are nearing the end of our block of gymnastics.  We have learned how to complete a straddle vault.  Our outdoor P.E block has involved us creating skills stations in small groups to perform to the class and work around in a carousel.

We made our 3D models of the Scottish Parliament building.  Some chose to build out of clay, others chose LEGO or junk modelling.

We have created a script and practised our roles for our assembly.  The leadership team have also been busy organising and planning the MacMillan Coffee morning which will be held directly after our assembly on the 30th.

We have enjoyed:

R – I am really enjoying P7 because it is fun!

H – I enjoyed learning about Parliament because I like politics.

L – I have found the Academy Maths fun to complete!

J – I am enjoying writing for the first time in school because I can be creative!

Please feel free to leave us any comments and we will read them out in class!
