Numeracy

We have started our Maths Transition LIVE sessions with Mrs Lundenberg from Armadale Academy.  These will take place every week and will help to enhance our numeracy and maths skills in preparation for transition.  In numeracy we have been learning more about Fractions, Decimals and Percentages.  This will help us during our Financial Education focus later next month as we look at converting currencies, working out interest rates and the benefits/cons of credit or store cards.

Literacy

In literacy we have been writing narratives and focusing on the finer details of description.  We have also been exploring digital literacy by transferring our writing into comics using the Pixton app.  We held a class vote and our new class novel is The Christmasaurus Cracker which is the brand new novel by Tom Fletcher.  In French, we are looking at describing our likes/dislikes, describing clothes and colours, and talking about the weather around the world.

Other areas

We have been learning about sustainability.  We found other uses for plastic bags such as jewellery and clothes!  We also learned more about energy, recycling and waste.  We built our own windfarms using lego or junk modelling. We also designed and created our own class scarecrow as part of a whole school challenge.  Her name is Betty and you can see her final version below!

We have started a new STEAM challenge called the Air Race Challenge.  We have been tasked with designing, building and operating a drone course which is very exciting!  We will be sharing details of our progress very soon!

We had the West Lothian Rangers Service visit us and we completed an outdoor learning workshop with them.  We had to use our problem solving skills to complete their challenges!

We have enjoyed:

L – I liked creating comics using our free writing, it was fun!

H – I liked helping at the coffee morning, it was nice to see everyone and we raised so much money for McMillan.

R – I liked the plastic bag challenge when we had to find another use for them, we made bracelets.

Primary 4hs Blog 20.10.22

Primary 4 had a great end to Term 1 and are very excited to learn lots of new things during Term 2.

In literacy we have began looking at how to write a narrative. We have already planned and written one which was based on a well-known fairy tale but with an Egyptian twist! We really enjoyed this and can’t wait to develop our writing more.

In numeracy we have been using different strategies to help us with addition and subtraction. We have become much more confident in using the column method. This term we will be developing our knowledge of money and will continue to use different strategies to help us. In Maths, we will be learning about measure.

We are now rounding off our Egyptians topic before starting a new, exciting topic around food chains and “Farm to Fork”.

Below you will find some of the highlights of P4 so far.

I have enjoyed doing the Egyptians topic, I found it really fascinating – B

I have been enjoying ERIC time – Z

P4s Blog Update 20.10.22

P4s had an excellent end to term 1. During STEAM week we spent time researching the impact of plastic on the environment and learnt about ways in which everyone can help keep our planet as healthy as possible. The class brought in plastic items from home and we spent an afternoon upcycling them into new and exciting products. P4s created bird feeders, Halloween and Christmas decorations, handbags… we even made some new storage containers for the classroom!

Following STEAM week and the conversations we had, P4s felt that they wanted to do their part around the school to help keep plastic off the ground. Many of the children chose to give up their break and lunch time to litter pick around the playground – very well done to you all!

The beginning of Term 2 will be spent rounding off our Egyptians topic and finishing our first class novel, The Wild Robot. We have two new class novels to read before Christmas – which we are very excited about 🙂
