P5m’s Dynamic Earth Visit

P5m have so much to share about our recent visit to Dynamic Earth at Holyrood in Edinburgh. We began in the the Stratosphere dome and watched a short clip which showed the Earth’s creation over billions of years. Next we explored different stations which looked at different rocks, earthquake simulations, ICT natural disaster games and created our our mini tornadoes using water bottles.  We then explored many of the many rooms that Dynamic Earth had to offer such as the Rainforest, the polar regions as well as the volcano room.

We would definitely recommend a visit to Dynamic Earth as we felt it brought to life many of the world’s natural disasters and allowed us an insight into how they happen. Take a look at some of our learning…

Some comments included…

“I enjoyed the room where the ground shook because I thought it was a real simulation” Jayden

“I enjoyed the part where the movie showed us the creation of Earth” Charlie

“I enjoyed the 3D movie about all the different animals, especially when the scorpion tried to sting us!” Kaylee

“The rainforest was good, especially seeing the mock chimpanzee” Emily

Welcome back everyone. We hope you had a good Easter.

We have been looking at our new maths topic which is data handling. We will be looking at bar graphs, line graphs, tally charts as well as different ways and methods of expressing data. We will be conducting our own surveys throughout the class as well as with other children where possible to collect different data sets.

In writing, we have been looking at retelling stories about people in our lives that we no longer and how we can best remember them and we have been structuring our writing to reflect this.

In PE, we are beginning to learn how to accurately serve and return shuttles and we have been looking at how to use an underarm clear as well as an overarm serve.

Please ensure that any letters are returned to school as soon as possible regarding our trip to dynamic earth in Holyrood on Tuesday 31st May.

We enjoyed our Christmas Party and we have also been taking part in fun vertical learning experiences in our classrooms whereby we have been looking at different aspects of our learning including dancing, ICT and art.

In maths we have been looking at measuring and bringing together all of our different aspect of measuring which includes weighing, measuring length and height as well as beginning to look at volume.  In particular, we been looking at grams and kilograms and looking at the relationship between the two as well as looking at how to make comparrsions between millilitres and litres.

In topic, we have been presenting our researching skills by delivering a class presentation to our peers – it was great to see how engaged the class audience were as some presentations included a question and answer session which was an amazing addition.

Thank you everyone for making the first 2 terms of P5 so incredible and we hope you have a jolly Christmas and a great New Year!
