P6W Blog 27th May 2022

In literacy we have been continuing our learning block on non -fiction writing.  We have been researching how people in space make sandwiches and wash their hair, and then writing our own procedural reports.  We have also been working on persuasive writing by completing Buddy Applications.

In numeracy we have been revisiting, reviewing and revising the work we have covered in P6.  We have been reminding ourselves how to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000, how to multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 and how to calculate foreign exchange currency. In Maths we have been investigating different ways to collect, organise and interpret data. We have looked Venn Diagrams, Carroll Diagrams, Line and Bar Graphs and Pie Charts. Ms Brody has been working with us on a Tuesday morning to help develop our understanding of 3D shapes by creating drawings and nets of familiar shapes.

In PE we have been developing our skills in athletics by practising the “hurl throw” and the “fling throw.” We even had our own mini challenge to see who was the class champion thrower.  We have also been learning the skills needed to play tennis in the lead up to the British tennis season.  We have been practising our forehand and backhand ground strokes and next week we will be learning how to serve the ball correctly to our opponent.

In RME we have been investigating how different religions interpret “Peace.” We discovered that Western religions focus more on community peace whilst Eastern Religions focus more on inner peace.  We created some art to represent the world symbols for peace including a 3D model of a peace dove.

We have also been on two class trips since our last blog!! We visited New Lanark Heritage Centre where were able to experience what learning was like in a Victorian classroom and have a tour of the mill.  We also visited Glasgow Science Centre where we were able to interact with the science exhibits and watch a 3D movie linked to our topic on Space in the IMAX Movie theatre.

In IDL we have been learning about Satellites. We carried out independent research to answer some key questions – When was the first one launched?  What are satellites mainly used for?  Which country has the most in space?   How do they work?  Can they be recycled?  What happens when they go wrong?  How do they get back to earth at the end of their lives?

In French we have been learning how to articulate our preferences for food.  This week we learned how to ask for different types of sandwiches . . . . . .“Je voudrais un baguette normale avec jambon et les tomates!”

In Health and Wellbeing we have been learning about different types of relationships including girlfriend/ boyfriend and how to keep ourselves and our information safe on the internet.
