In literacy we have been learning how to write persuasive texts.  We started by researching renewable energy v non-renewable energy and discussed reasons why we think renewable energy is a better option.  We then learned how to structure and write an exposition, using justified arguments and emotive language. We have now used what we learned in that lesson to write persuasive letters to the council.  We are trying to persuade then not to build houses on our playing field (Mrs Welsh promised that they weren’t really planning to do that!)

In numeracy we have been learning to collect, organise, interpret and display information in the form of bar line graphs.  We have also been learning about the properties of circles with Ms Brody. WE have been revising some aspects of numeracy such as rounding numbers to estimate and answer to a sum and identifying and continuing patterns.

In art we have been linking our skills to our RME topic and Pattern work in numeracy by printing our own Rangoli patterns.  We used a wedge of press print to create or intricate designs and then repeated the pattern in a circle to create the finished design.  We linked our Russian topic with Easter by researching and creating our own Faberge Eggs and we created Easter themed headbands to wear on our Whole school spring walk.

In Science, we were so pleased that our chicks hatched.  We have had great fun watching them play, feed and sleep in class. We made up a timetable so that everyone got a chance to hold the chicks before they were returned to the farmer.  We were also learning about friction and air resistance by creating egg parachutes.  We tested how successful our egg parachutes were by throwing them out the window on the bridge.  Two parachutes were successful/

In PE we have been developing our skill in cross country running in preparation for a festival we will be taking part in later this month.  We have also been developing skill in athletics.  We have starting with improving our jumping for height and distance techniques.

We have linked our 2D shape topic in Maths with ICT skills by inviting some P& pupils to show us how to use the programmable Probots to draw a range of 2D shapes.  We needed to remember the properties of the shapes such as side length and angles so we could programme the probots correctly.
