P4S Blog it! 8.10.20

We have had a fabulous start to P4 and have been really enjoying our learning. Here are a few of our highlights so far:
TM- I liked the food chain topic at the beginning of P4 because it involved a lot of animals and I like animals.
AC- I am enjoying maths very much because I am enjoying rounding numbers and learning about shapes.
EW- In literacy we were doing research using devices to find out about Ancient Egyptians. I found out that only wealthy boys went to school.

EW brought this real Egyptian papyrus to school!

ML- We made papyrus paper using teabags and paper. Then we wrote on it.
AA- Ancient Egyptians wrote using hieroglyphics. We wrote our own messages using hieroglyphs.

JL- We used the ipad to take pictures of ourselves and then turned ourselves into pharaohs.

BLOG IT! P4M 8.10.20

Hello everyone!

P4M would like to share all the wonderful learning we have experienced so far in P4! We can’t believe it is our October holiday already…time is flying in!

J would like to share about how  we mummified some oranges…that was fun! We did this because we have been learning about Ancient Egyptians mummies and life.

T would like to tell you about our Ancient Egyptian Maths.  It was pretty fun and tricky.

E is feeling happy as he feels he has been achieving in Maths.

L would like to tell you about how we made Pyramids.  We used paper straws to make the base of it then used tissue paper and paper to make the outside.

H is feeling happy as he feels he is achieving in maths and numeracy.

Z would like to tell you about the orienteering.  We run about, get some exercise, have lots of fun and solve clues and puzzles.  Z knows that the more we run the healthier our body gets.

N learned that there is a big river in Egypt and it is called the River Nile.

M has enjoyed the rainbow maths quiz we have been doing.  It started during Maths week and we’ve kept going!

M is feeling happy because she feels she is achieving in literacy.

A would like to tell you about Tutankhamun because his tomb is really interesting.  In writing we wrote a description of it.

S would like to tell you about our writing this term.  We did some free writing and wrote either a description or a narrative of our own choice.  S thought this was fun.

E is feeling very happy as she feels she is achieving in literacy.

K would like to tell you about our writing.  At the very start of the term we created our own magical pets and them wrote about them.

B liked when we created some Egyptian Portraits.  B used patterns to compete the design on a profile picture of her own face.

M has enjoyed all of the art we have done on Ancient Egypt.  We made necklaces and head dresses.

J would like to tell you about spelling.  We do spelling tests, diacritical marking and put our words into sentences to help us learn them.

L would like to tell you about Teams.  We learned how to log on and we log onto live lessons on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday using teams.

M would like to tell you about literacy.  We have been looking at adjectives, verbs, pronouns, proper nouns and nouns.

Finally, Miss MacKenzie would like to show you some of our fantastic papyrus paper and hieroglyphic messages.

Thank you for all of your support,

We have been learning new strategies in numeracy for addition and subtraction. We have learned the jump strategy, the rounding and compensating strategy and the split strategy. As a class, we much prefer the split strategy although we really like ‘chimney’ sums too!

In PE, we have been cross-country, tabata and orienteering. We have really enjoyed them all.

We have started Spanish and been learning the days of the week and months of the year which we have really enjoyed!

We are looking forward to our topic about Mexico next term!

We are also looking forward to using the numeracy wall and playing some new numeracy games.

Next term we are playing footgolf in PE!

We hope you have a super October break!
