Not only can we find a half in shape we are now exploring finding a half of whole numbers. We are finding some numbers can be shared equally amongst 2 and with others sometimes you have a left over. In P2a we have been learning about halves of whole numbers to 20 by doing a fun activity using dinosaurs, pasta and other objects.
Bonjour! We had great fun today with Mr McEvoy who came to play some French games with us. We sang songs, we played an odd and even game with numbers and revised our colours. When he spoke to us he mostly spoke in French. We did really well remembering how to say our names and where we lived in French. Au revoir!
Primary 1 are very excited to share their learning at a coffee afternoon next Thursday. We cannot wait to show our grandparents around our kitchen, bathroom and living room that we made. There will also be lots of fun activities about homes in the past for us to do together.
Super Gran came to visit again and this time she helped us learn what living rooms used to look like when she was a young girl. We were so surprised to find out that TVs were black and white and only had a few channels! It was fun to learn about record players and how they work. We made a TV and a record player out of junk material.
Super Gran didn’t want her outside toilet any more. She helped us learn what bathrooms looked like in the past and we helped her choose a modern bathroom. We really enjoyed comparing old bathrooms with modern ones. We realised how lucky we are to have a bathroom in the house and a hot shower.
Super Gran came into school to help Primary 1 learn about what kitchens were like when she was a little girl. We found out that there was no electricity and they cooked their food on a range. We made a range out of cardboard boxes and we put it in our house corner. We can now play in a kitchen from the past!
During art today, P5b took learning outdoors and combined textiles with natural materials, found outside. Weaving the coloured wool around some dried sticks and branches, we learned some weaving techniques. We enjoyed taking art outdoors and although sometimes it was tricky, for many of us it was a relaxing activity that challenged us in many ways! It’s amazing how you can create some vibrant, interesting art from the simplest materials! Some of us took them home today to hang somewhere nice…some of us even liked the idea of using it as a ‘good luck charm’!
We are busy bees in Primary 2 and have been building on our learning in our shape topic, by developing and applying our knowledge in tiling. We have also begun to explore fractions by finding a half of shapes. We now know a half is two parts of a whole and each half has to be equal to each other. We are doing super work in maths and are looking forward to learning more about fractions.
Our daffodils are being brave and popping up from the soil to say hello. They still have some growing to do yet but in P2 and P2/1 we are doing a fabulous job of caring for them and are sure it won’t be long before they are beautiful, blooming daffodils to be proud of.
In P2 and P2/1 we have been learning a lot about what school was like when Magic Grandad was a boy. Last week we had a look at the uniform and even got to design a new one! We have been noticing a lot of differences between school then and now. We feel very lucky to be in school as it is now, the teachers are much friendlier, we have smartboards and lots of activities to help us learn.
We are looking forward to our visit to the Glasgow Street Museum on 26th February. This will help us understand what school and life was like when Grandad was a boy.
