Superhero training in Primary 5

Primary 5 received another letter from Not-So-Super-Stan today. In his letter he thanks us for all our help so far but now he wants to know what it takes to be fit and healthy like a superhero. So we have begun Superhero Training in order to help Not-So-Super-Stan understand how to be physicallly fit. Below are some pictures of us training to run faster than a speeding bullet!!!

This Week in Primary 5

There have been lots of things happening in primary 5 as we prepare for Christmas.

We were able to go and watch the Nursery children perform their Nativity. It was fantastic to see, especially as we had been in the nursery a few weeks ago reading to them.

Nursey Nativity

On Thursday we made Spiced Apple Chutney with Mrs Logan. It was great fun. We had to peel, chop and dice the ingredients before measuring out brown sugar, red wine vinegar, sultanas,  cayenne pepper, cumin and ground ginger. Then we mixed all the ingredients in a bowl before finally putting the chutney into our own glass jars which we took home. We need to remember to leave it for 2-3 days in the fridge to allow all the flavours to mix. Don’t forget to give it a shake every day!

Also on Thursday we completed the last experiment in our Science topic, Solids, Liquids and Gases. The last experiment was to create a gas. We needed to get into groups of three. In our groups we poured vinegar into a small bottle until it was one quarter full. Then we put a teaspoon of baking powder in a balloon and put the balloon over the top of the bottle. After 3 we all tipped the balloon up so that the baking powder reacted with the vinegar causing carbon dioxide to form in the bottle, making the balloon blow up.

Primary 5 at Sky Academy

Primary 5 attended the Sky Academy studios on Wednesday 2nd December and had a fantastic time. We were shown how news reports are made from beginning to the finished product we see on the news. It was fascinating!

We had to work in teams of six to plan, write and film our section of the news report. We did this in four different studios with a deadline to meet and we each had our own job to do. Once we had all finished our section of the news report it was put together as one whole report about pocket money.

At the end of our session we had the opportunity to view our finished report, it was amazing. We all worked extremely hard and collaborated well together. Every pupil was awarded a certificate and given a copy of the news report on a USB to take home. IMG_1052   IMG_1066

Superheroes in Primary 5

We have started our Health and Wellbeing topic, Superheroes.

We received letters from someone called Not-So-Super-Stan. He told us that he would like to become a superhero but doesn’t know how. In his first letter he asked if we’d accept his challenge of helping him become a superhero, which of course we accepted!

In Not-So-Super-Stan’s second letter he has asked us to find out about how superheroes gain their super powers. We discovered that Spider-Man gained his powers after being bitten by a spider and Superted got his powers when Spottyman sprinkled cosmic dust over him in the attic where he had been left.

Not-So-Super-Stan suggested that we make comic strips explaining how a character of our choice got their super powers. We had so much fun creating them that we’ve uploaded some photos of our comic strips. We hope you enjoy them 🙂
