P1 Home Learning Thursday 4th June

Good morning everyone. Here is what we would like you to work on today. Please also see plan for more details.

Literacy

Writing a set of instructions

· We would like you to write your own set of instructions for planting seeds You should use words like first, then, next and finally at the start of your sentence for each instruction.

· For example – First put some soil in a pot.

· Miss Mackay will post some photos of her planting seeds for you to follow. Photos to come today.

Numeracy

· Esti-mysteries

Use your knowledge of numbers to solve the problem, use the first recording sheet to record your estimates-it might be easier to cross off the numbers as you read each clue (this very quickly helps to reduce the range of possible numbers). If you would rather not print the recording sheet the numbers could be written into the home learning jotter instead.

Perhaps you could create your own game of estimation bullseye

(all you need is a glass or cup, some small objects e.g. buttons, lego, marbles, etc and a partner)

Afternoon

P2/3 Thursday 4th June 2020 – Literacy – Rhyming words and Maths – Fractions

Thursday 4th June 2020

Literacy – listening to, and reading, rhyming words

You’re all working very hard and I’m sure you’re looking forward to making some Samba music this evening.

Listening/reading:

L.I: To recognise rhyming words

Listen to the traditional song, Katie Bairdie.  I’m sure you’ve heard it before.  Listen specifically for the rhyming words.  Can you discuss the rhyming words with someone at home?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKQwbV-hZHw

Now read the lyrics for the song.  Can you read the rhyming words?  If you can, print out the example and circle the rhyming words. If, like me, you don’t have a printer at home, just write the matching rhyming words on paper or in your jotter. Katie Bairdie lyrics

Remember, rhyming words usually appear at the end of a line.  They aren’t always spelled the same but they sound the same.  Here is an example:

Who wants a friend like Snorty Bull

Who kicks and stamps and thinks he’s cool.

Who wants a friend like Snorty Bull

We don’t!

The Daily Draw: Samba

Maths:

L.I: To show understanding of fractions.

In maths today, we are going to use our knowledge and understanding of ½ and ¼ to clap out musical notes.  Please also challenge yourself with a Fractions Challenge.  These are all called ‘Chilli Challenge’ and instead of Mild, Spicy, Hot they are called ‘Nice and Spicy’, ‘It’s getting hot’ and ‘Burning up’.

Wednesday 3rd June P3 Home Learning

This week’s theme is MUSIC!

Literacy: L.I. To use commas to write in a list

Refresh your brain about how we write lists using commas, click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH19dM0y9AA

Practise using this fun quiz! Click here: T2-E-456-Using-Commas-to-Separate-Items-in-a-List-SPaG-Punctuation-Powerpoint-Quiz

Now listen and watch to this piece of music and make of list (in a sentence, using commas) of all the musical instruments you can see and hear! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOjHhS5MtvA

Maths: Finding a fraction of an amount, click here:Introduction to Fractions of Amounts PowerPoint Remember we drew arrays to help us to find fraction of amounts…

I shared 6 dots into 3 equal groups because I want to find a third. Then I just count up how much is in one circle to tell me one third. 1/3 of 6=2. I could find out 2 thirds by adding 2 circles, 2/3 of 6=4.

Complete the following

Mild:

Find…

  1. ½ of 10
  2. 1/3 of 15
  3. ¼ of 20
  4. 1/5 of 20
  5. ½ of 14

Spicy

Find…

  1. 2/4 of 20
  2. 2/3 of 15
  3. 3/5 of 15
  4. ¾ of 20
  5. ½ of 50 ( think of alternative way to solve than drawing an array)

Hot (you will not be able to draw arrays to solve these, you will have to use your times tables (remember the inverse relationship between multiplication and division) and/or draw dienes)

Find…

  1. ½ of 70
  2. 2/5 of 40
  3. 2/3 of 180
  4. ¾ of 100
  5. 2/4 of 80 (what is 2/4 the same as?)
