Topic – Road Safety.

Learning outcomes
By the end of this lesson pupils will be familiar with aspects of the Stop, Look, Listen and Think sequence. They will be able to discuss simple ways of behaving safely when near roads and traffic such as holding a grown up’s hand and finding safer places to cross the road.

Stop, Look, Listen, Think sequence
• Stop – when you approach a crossing, STOP before you come to an edge of the pavement.
• Look – LOOK for cars, bikes, lorries, other vehicles, by looking right, left and right again.
• Listen – LISTEN for vehicles too. You may be able to hear them before you see them.
• Think – is there enough time for you to cross the road safely?

Watch the video clip below. The second one is from someone special.

https://www.think.gov.uk/resource/crossing-roads/

• Questions to ask about the video.
Can you tell me one of the things you can do to stay safer when you are on a scooter?
What did the boy do when he got in the car?
What did the girl do when she crossed the road?

Click on the links below for two activity worksheets you can also do. If you are able to print those off you can or you can discuss what you see in the picture and read the sentences or if you are feeling you need a challenge you could write some of the sentences out.

Can you name the different types of traffic

Can you use a pelican crossing

Mental Health Awareness week-P1 task

In school we have used Emotion Works to name and describe our emotions. We have discussed which emotions make us feel good and which don’t. We also talked about ways to self-regulate our bodies if we are faced with a situation which makes us feel angry, sad, disappointed or worried. Worries can be big or small and everyone worries about things at times-they are normal. Watch the story and see what happens to Ruby. Talk about ways that could help you if you are worried about something.

Talking to others is a great strategy along with doing things that make you feel good,

Our mind, brain, and body are all interconnected. Exercise is one way to help you emotionally regulate your body. It sounds surprising, but you can improve emotional regulation in your child in as little as 7 minutes per day. Have a go at these exercises-45 seconds per exercise, 15 seconds rest in between each one. Put your child’s favourite upbeat music on and get ready to start, even better if you join in with them. You actually want to be tired, breathing heavy, and heartbeat elevated at the end of this 7 minutes.

P1 (P1L and P1S) Cross Curricular Task

Tuesday 19th May 2020

(Link to a more readable version and templates: 19-05-20 P1 CC task  )

This is the only lesson/activity I will upload this week.  It is a cross-curricular task that covers a number of subjects – Art, Maths, Technology and Health and Well-being.

Task:

  • To design a board game and play it.

Things to think about:

What will your game look like?

Design/draw it.  If you click on the link you will find board game templates.  You may wish to copy them or print them off. Alternatively, you may wish to design your own.

You can make it as colourful as you like.

Does your game have a theme?
What are the rules?

Keep it simple.  Don’t make the rules too difficult to understand.

Do you need any equipment?

If there is anything you do not have, is there something else you could use?

Good luck and remember to send pictures of them to the school office.
