Sharing the Learning – P4/3

Shared Learning at School - Rokeby Primary School

Thank you to all of the parents and carers who were able to attend our Sharing the Learning event this morning.  The children loved having you in class as they engaged in a range of reading activities.

Joseph – My mum was here and we did a crossword and read a story.

Ariana – My mum came and we designed a character and did a word search.  My character was Rapunzel and she had a crown and long hair and a dress.

Charlotte – Me and my mum read a story and did a wordsearch.

Jorja – Me and my mum did the questions (about reading) on the board and I read a book to her called “Cowboy Kid”.  I drew me as a cowboy.

Abner – I read a story called “Secret Seven” and my mum helped me with the word search.

Oonagh – I read about Highland Cows and answered lots of questions about them because I know lots about them and I love them.

Amber – I did a reading crossword with my mum and showed her around the classroom.

Jude – I was doing the crossword with my mum.

Darcy – I did a Captain America character drawing with my mum.

Evan – My mum helped me with a wordsearch.

Zac – I liked my mum and dad in my classroom.

Philip – I did a wordsearch and read a book about a snake with my mum and it’s called “There’s a Snake in my School”.

Kendall – Me and my dad did a wordsearch and crossword.

Grace – Me and my mum answered the questions about books and started to read a book.

Primary 3 Try Healthy Food!

In Health and Wellbeing, P3 have been learning all about food. We found out where food comes from and used the Eatwell Guide to learn about healthy choices.

We also talked about how to stay safe when preparing food, like washing our hands and using equipment carefully.

The best part was making and tasting healthy foods! P3 were fantastic at trying new things and learning that healthy food can be fun and tasty.

Autumn 🍂 start in Primary 1

Primary 1 have been learning that the season has now changed to Autumn 🍂. We talked about the changes we can see 👀 hear 👂 and smell 👃 as the weather gets colder.

For outdoor learning we had a lovely walk up to a local woodland area where we explored the trees 🌳 and shrubs. We talked about staying safe in a different area and had lots of fun.

We are all doing very well in progressing through our sounds and are starting to blend sounds together to make words. The more we practice these the easier it will be to read and write. All children have been sent home with a set of sounds.

On Friday we enjoyed the “Big Breakfast”  and “Sharing Our Learning “. Tasting different food at breakfast club with our friends and family . After breakfast it was great to show the adults our amazing work in class.

Have a lovely weekend 😀

P5 Update 18.9.25

P5 have enjoyed our mini topic on oceans of the world and the coral reef habitat.  We concluded it by creating a model of a submarine that could dive to the coral reefs, collect samples, provide visuals and provide communication to the surface.  The results were fantastic.  Happy September weekend!

Primary 1

Primary have been thinking about what is in our circle of control. We worked together to put things into our circle of control and what we can’t control, there were lots discussions about this and lots of thinking points.

We have also been using our Building Thinking Classrooms time to increase our meta skills and knowledge. Working together in random groups we have to solve a problem, working it out together. We all enjoy working with our friends.

At outdoor learning this week we were practicing being safe outside the school grounds. We walked to our local park, being very careful walking along side the road. Once at the part we worked on lots of silks, climbing, balancing, sharing, taking turns all while having lots of fun.

We have also been working on developing our critical thinking and problem solving skills in the outdoor classroom, building towers and obstacle courses.

Have a lovely September weekend 😀

TheLifeofTay!

We have had another wonderful week in Tay.

We have focused our Literacy learning on the initial sound ‘b’ in our songs and practiced our fine motor skills in dabbing safari animal spots! We have also enjoyed working on the lightboards…

In our Number work we have counted our fingers and our toes…focusing on 1-5 and 1-10! Great fun!

During our Morning Group we have broadened our learning journey relating to ‘Days of the Week’ to include the ‘Seasons’ as Autumn has truly arrived!

…And we have continued to enjoy sensory time outside and construction challenges inside!

Taylor is going to his fourth family this weekend…He has had a wonderful time on tour, and we have all enjoyed learning about his adventures. #TayonTour   #TeamTayTaylor

Busy, busy!

We wish you all a lovely September long weekend and we look forward to sharing the next part of our journey together when we come back on Tuesday.

P4/3 numeracy update

we have  had a successful start to the new year in P4/3. We are  working hard and enjoying making new friends.
in maths we have completed our first topic of place value. We have been working with numbers in the hundreds, tens and ones columns and learning the difference between a digit and a number as well as greater than and less than.  We have used practical equipment to support our learning and we have enjoyed playing maths games with others in class.

Everyday we start our lesson with a problem solving task through our Building Thinking Classrooms approach. In this part of the lesson we work in random groups and at a vertical board. Through this task we are developing our collaboration skills and are learning to share our thoughts and ideas and to listen to others.

Lomond Class

Pitta Bread Pizzas’ were a big hit this week in Lomond Class.

We used our looking and listening skills. We were encouraged to touch, smell and taste. We chose our toppings and practiced our spreading and cutting skills too.

They looked and smelt delicious and must have tasted good too as there was not a morsel left on four plates!  (‘L’ took her one home).

Well done Lomond Class.
