Primary 3 received a lovely gift this week – a copy of the newly released “Gruffalo Granny”, by Julia Donaldson – from Mrs Topping’s mum! We loved reading it and we will keep it in our story corner so that we can read it by ourselves.

This week in Health and Well Being Primary 3 have been learning about friendship and what qualities make a good friend. We talked about what ingredients we would add to make  “Friendship Soup”. We are now going to do some art work to add to our Health and Well Being wall display.

We enjoyed the “Big Breakfast” on Friday where we were joined by lots of parents and carers. Then we had “Sharing our Learning”, where parents and carers had the opportunity to visit our classroom to share what we are learning about in Literacy. We did lots of activities linked to the book, “Harry and His Bucketful of Dinosaurs”. Thank you to everyone who came along!

This week Primary 3 have been creating a timeline for Ancient Egypt by travelling in our very own Time Machine! We visited the year most of us were born, 2019,  before a whistle stop tour of WWII, the Victorian Era, the Vikings and Ancient Greece and Rome before landing in Ancient Egypt over 3000 years ago.

We also created beautiful and ornate Egyptian collars with Mrs Ferguson as part of our IDL topic.

In French we have been playing a board game and asking each other “Ca va?” and trying our best to respond in French by saying how we are feeling.

We all had our first successful session within our school Committees this week and we look forward to meeting each month to suggest improvements, experience leadership roles as well as to represent pupil voices in our chosen area.

We continued to improve our descriptive writing where we had the opportunity to write about a friend using lots of ambitious vocabulary and interesting adjectives. Mrs Topping was very impressed with the pieces of writing we produced. Well done Primary 3!!

In Primary 3 this week, we received an important package from the Museum of Scotland which contained lots of Ancient Egyptian books and artefacts to support our learning on this topic.

We had to be extremely careful when unpacking them because they are very fragile.

We are looking forward to finding out more about them as we progress through our Ancient Egypt topic.

Our Building Thinking Classrooms session was very successful where we worked collaboratively together in random groups. We are working towards being able to explain our thinking and our solutions to the rest of our class.

For French this week we finished creating our French feelings emojis for our wall display, (See Seesaw for photos).

Primary 3 have been learning more about France this week. We were able to locate France on a world map, (thanks Aston!), we made French flags and enjoyed tasting French foods. Unfortunately it was too difficult to source frogs legs and snails so we tried baguettes, brie, croissants and pan au chocolate. Some foods were more popular than others!

We also introduced this term’s IDL topic which is Ancient Egypt. The children worked in groups to identify what they already know and what they would like to find out about Ancient Egypt over the next few weeks.

We had the very important job of voting in our school elections for our House Captains and Vice Captains. We tried to keep our votes secret before posting them in the official Ballot Box. It was all very exciting as election fever took over!

We finished our busy week with a lovely, welcome back to school mass with Father Marcine where the hymn singing was outstanding.

The routines in Primary 3 are well underway and children are comfortable in their classroom and within the school environment.

Read, Write, Ink groups have been firmly established and children know when, where and with which adults they are learning for Literacy.

The children have enjoyed learning about road trains this week which has been linked to our descriptive writing where we identified nouns and adjectives from a descriptive text.

Our numeracy tasks have included demonstrating different ways to partition numbers up to 99 using concrete materials and the whole/part model.

We had an exciting Assembly this morning where the Primary 7 candidates for House Captains and Vice Captains began their election campaigns to win votes. It’s going to be a tough decision when Election Day arrives!

Our first full week in Primary 3 has been another busy one. We are beginning to find our feet with class jobs being allocated where we have the opportunity to demonstrate being responsible citizens around the school.

We have completed our Class Charter, our “Recipe for a Rights Respecting Classroom”, which helps us to connect pupil actions to our rights in the classroom and focuses on mutual respect, kindness and inclusion.

RWI has been successfully launched across Primary 1 – 4  and all children have worked hard in their respective groups with staff delighted with what a fantastic start the children have made to their Literacy this term.

Other highlights this week include Building Thinking Classrooms where pupils worked collaboratively in random groups on problem solving strategies as well as having a super introduction to outdoor learning with Mrs Ferguson.

Primary 3 have had a busy week settling into their new classroom, creating a safe and welcoming environment and becoming familiar with new routines. It has been a  super week focusing on building relationships and community and setting expectations for the year ahead.  It has been fantastic to see all of the children back in school, ready to learn, wearing school uniform and big smiles! Lots of learning has taken place across all areas and it is great to be back together. We are all looking forward to lots of exciting learning opportunities in the coming session.
