P3 📚📏

This week in P3 we had lots of exciting activities, including celebrating World Book Day and welcoming our families into school for Sharing Our Learning.

To celebrate World Book Day, we took part in several fun literacy activities. The children designed their own book covers and wrote a short story to match their ideas. We were very impressed with their creativity and imagination! They also made bookmarks to use when reading their favourite books. One of the highlights of the day was a scavenger hunt around the school, where the children searched for books and matched them to clues they were given about the book. Everyone had great fun exploring and working together.

Today we also held our Sharing Our, where parents were invited into the classroom to see what we have been learning. The children confidently explained that in maths we have been learning about measurement, focusing on metres and centimetres.

To demonstrate our learning, the children took part in a practical measuring activity. They used rulers to measure paper in centimetres, carefully cutting paper strips to the exact length. After measuring and cutting, they used their creativity to turn the strips into artwork. Once the artwork was complete, we compared the different lengths and talked about which were longer or shorter.

The children did a wonderful job explaining their learning and showing their completed work in their textbooks and maths jotters . We are very proud of how confident they were when sharing with their parents. Well done, P3! 🌟📚📐

P3🌍💡

Today P3 took part in Energy Saving Hour organised by the ECO committee. For one whole hour, we switched off the lights, put away the iPads, and didn’t use any technology at all  even our Smart Board stayed off!

During this time, we completed our Friday 5 and enjoyed some free writing. We had to think carefully and work together without the help of technology. It made us realise just how much we use it every day! We had a great discussion about whether we could survive a full week without our Smart Board… opinions were very mixed!🤔 We also entered a competition to create a badge for the uniform swap. There were so many creative and colourful ideas!

On Wednesday, we spent time with our school committees. The Play Committee worked hard to create new play rules for all pupils and teachers. These rules will help everyone play safely and respectfully. The Literacy Committee organised a fantastic and very fun assembly all about World Book Day.

This week, we also used our brand-new classroom McDonald’s during play time. Using the new play rules, we made sure to play safely and show respect to one another. The children used their wonderful imaginations to create all sorts of foods you might find in McDonald’s from burgers and fries to some very creative new menu items🍔🍟 We used teamwork, role play, and creativity while playing.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

On Saturday, our Primary 3 pupils celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This important step in their faith journey gave the children time to reflect, say sorry, and experience forgiveness.

The pupils approached the sacrament with care and confidence, showing how much they have learned during their preparation. We are extremely proud of each child.😁

Well done to everyone involved, and thank you to the parish and parents who supported the children on this special occasion.

Learning in P3!

We started our week by celebrating Shrove Tuesday. P3 learned all about why we have Pancake Day and that it is the day before Lent begins. We talked about what Lent means and shared our own Lenten promises. As a class, we also made a very special promise to try our best to be kind to one another throughout Lent. 💜

On Wednesday, as part of our science topic on weather, P3 explored different weather symbols and discussed what they tell us. We used the iPads to check the weather forecast and even watched the news to see the symbols being used in real life. P3 were able to identify many different symbols and talked about which types of weather we see most often in Scotland, such as rain, clouds, and wind. We also discussed how the weather can be very different in other countries. Some places are much hotter and sunnier, while others may have lots of snow or very dry weather. P3 enjoyed comparing Scotland’s climate to countries around the world. 🌦️🌍

On Thursday and Friday, P3 began redesigning our classroom play area. After sharing lots of creative ideas, we took a class vote and decided to create a McDonald’s with a drive-through! P3 were very excited and started designing their play area, thinking carefully about what they would need and how it should look. We are looking forward to continuing this project next week and seeing our ideas come to life! 🍟🚗

P3 Update!

Primary 3 have had a very busy and exciting start to the new term! Since returning after Christmas, we have been working hard, having fun and learning lots of new things across the curriculum.

 Scots Language and Scottish Traditions

We have been learning about the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns and exploring Scottish traditions such as tartan. We talked about the different colours and patterns in tartan and how they are made.

To link with our learning, we designed and created our very own Scottish kilts by weaving paper, they looked fantastic!

We also learned the famous Scottish poem “The Sair Finger” together as a class. Three very brave Primary 3 pupils even took part in the school finalist competition, we were so proud of them!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😊

Religious Education – The Sacrament of Reconciliation

In RE, we have been learning about the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We explored the different stages of the sacrament, listened to Bible stories and talked about why forgiveness is so important in our lives.

The children shared thoughtful ideas and showed great understanding during our discussions.✝️

Our New Class Topic – Greyfriars Bobby

We have started a new class topic all about Greyfriars Bobby. We explored the story of Bobby and talked about the important themes of loyalty and friendship.

To bring the story to life, we incorporated drama into our learning by taking part in hot seating, where pupils acted in role as Greyfriars Bobby and answered questions from the class. This helped us to think deeply about Bobby’s feelings and experiences.

We also compared Edinburgh in the past and present and learned about some famous Edinburgh landmarks, such as the castle and Greyfriars Kirkyard.🐾

➗ Maths

In maths, we have been working hard on multiplication and have made great progress. We are now ready to move on to learning about division, well done Primary 3!🧠

 Outdoor Learning and Play

Of course, we have also had lots of opportunities to play and learn together. We especially love spending time in the outdoor classroom every Monday and outdoor learning every Thursday with Miss Nelson, where we explore, work as a team and enjoy being active outside.🍃
