This week in Primary 6 we have been continuing our exploration of our solar system. Everybody within primary six has chosen their favourite planet to research and teach the rest of the class about. We have all enjoyed finding facts about our chosen planet as well as listening to others in our class teach us about their planets. We have only just started presenting our findings but the standard so far has been excellent, it will be interesting to see what more we can learn next week.

We were all excited for the September weekend. Enjoy your weekend everybody.

We’ve had another positive week in primary 6.

In numeracy we have been continuing our work on understanding number, comparing numbers up to 1,000,000. We also completed some building thinking classroom challenges, the different ways everybody worked to try and solve the problems was great to see.

In literacy this week we were working on our understanding of character as well as using our predicting skills. We also completed our dictation practice, the improvement is clear from everyone within the class so well done!

We used our devices within the classroom to explore our solar system during work on our topic this week. The engagement and enthusiasm amongst the class was great to see and there were a lot of interesting conversations about different things that had been discovered.

On Thursday we voted for our choice of candidate in the House Captain elections before finding out the winners on Friday. Congratulations to all of the House Captains and Vice Captains.

We finished the week on Friday with our first mass of the year. Our friends in primary 7 did a great job with their readings and it was a nice end to the week as we came together as a school.

This week we really settled into our routines and everyone has worked hard across the curriculum.

In literacy, all of the children have begun their reading for the year and were working on predicting what their book would be about using the information they can retrieve from the cover. There were a lot of interesting predictions and a large variety, it will be good to see who was right.

We started Building Thinking Classrooms and the children have enjoyed working in different groups throughout the week, it has been interesting to see the different ways the children went about solving the problems within their groups.

In IDL we looked at eclipses and compared lunar eclipses with solar eclipses, the differences as well as similarities between them both. This has culminated in some excellent work from everybody which will be our first topic display of the year.

Overall it has been a great week in primary 6.
