P5A Learning Highlights Week Beginning 24.1.22

Pupil Highlights:

Aoife: I liked making our sway presentations on 2d and 3d shapes.

Olivier: I liked using the watercolours to paint a thistles.

Filip: I liked making 3d shapes from their nets and drinking the irn bru and eating the shortbread on Burn’s Day.

Sylvia: I liked painting the thistles on Burn’s Day.

Josh: Although I hurt my finger, I still enjoyed P.E and listening to our class novel Adam2.

Daisy: I liked using a protractor to measure and draw right angles, obtuse, acute and straight lines.

Adam: I liked practising my handwriting.

Joshua: I liked doing the prodigy assignment.

Teacher Highlights:

I have been really impressed by our efforts to measure and draw angles using protractors accurately. This was challenging but we thought of ways to make this skill easier for us to master. One of the ways was using a coloured pencil to extend the lines so we could see them easier through the protractor, and, so that we knew what numbers on the protractor to look at . We asked ourselves  this questions- from simply looking at it , is the angle acute or obtuse? If it is obtuse, the number is going to be more than 90 degrees and less than 180. If the angle is acute, it is going to be less than 90 degrees.

I am also delighted that we have all managed to create our first sway on 2D and 3D Shape.

Our hot chocolate winner this week is Grant. We are all so proud of how neat his handwriting has been. We are going to all work hard on the presentation of our writing in class.

P2A Week Beginning 17th January 2022

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Red Table:

Julia like making ‘Magic e wands’.   This week the children have been learning how magic e transforms short vowel sounds into their long names.  We were focusing on words with the vowel ‘a’.

Joe enjoyed our lessons about ‘weight’ and knows that 500grams=1/2kilogram and 1000grams=1 kilogram.  He weighed different food items and watched as the dial on the scale showed how heavy that item was.

Aiden S said he loved the lesson about electrical safety at home.  Look out for pictures over the weekend on Seesaw of your child showing us their understanding of this important learning.  Here is the link in case your child would like to play the game again: https://www.switchedonkids.org.uk/electrical-safety-in-your-home

David K liked our Word Boost story ‘Stick Man’ this week and his favourite word to learn about was, ‘chuckle’.  We played ‘Word Boost Corners’ as part of our learning.  It was so much fun! Congratulations to Julia who won.

Zosia liked our lesson about ‘The Holy Spirit’ and knows that The Holy Spirit is part of God and Jesus and in the Bible, takes the form of a dove and a flame.  We can pray to The Holy Spirit too.

Chiji loved music with Mrs Morrison.  The children continued their learning about Scottish traditional music.

David S enjoyed handwriting.  The children are learning to write joined up!  So far they have learned how to join, ‘un’ and ‘ig’.  They had the choice of forming these letters in salt, water colours, on paint bags and wrote them on smartpals before their jotter work.

Olivier S liked learning about the correct layout in our maths squared jotters.

My highlight has also been the lessons on using the squared jotters correctly in maths.  The children did very well to try and copy sums from the board into their jotter, remembering the success criteria.  I was very proud of their efforts.

Well done to David K who received the Hot Chocolate Friday Award.

Amazing Week in P7B

Happy Weekend!

The P7B class have had a fantastic week of learning!

Vivaan and Xander enjoyed learning all about converting improper fractions into mixed fractions and vice versa and how to multiply fractions with other fractions and whole numbers. Or as i was told “I just liked everything to do with fractions”.

Szymon enjoyed learning about the journey of Saul this week and conducting his own research to further his learning.

Lucy enjoyed learning more about Scots language and particularly enjoyed reading, learning about and translating the Scots poem ‘The Puddock’ from Scots to English.

Emily enjoyed our IDL on Friday, using digital technology, conducting research and creating a fact file on a Scottish writer. She made a fantastic fact file on Robert Burns. This fact file along with a few other (Robert Burns) fact files will be great to look at as we learn more about Burns and his life next week.

The class enjoyed learning about identity this week, discussing our nationalities and what makes us…. Us. They are making flags to illustrate their identities and nationalities. We are excited to finish these next week for our identity display.

Charlotte had fun creating her own poem in Scots. It is very creative and humorous. I can’t wait to hear everyone’s finished drafts of their own Scots writing next week.

I had a great week, thank you P7B! I enjoyed our work on kindness and hearing all the lovely things you have got to say to one another. You should all be very proud of how hard you’ve worked this week! I’m very proud of you all.

A huge well done to Xander – our shining star/ hot chocolate at home recipient. You had a great week, Xander. I hope you liked hearing all the lovely things the class had to say about you during our peer nominations! Keep up the great work.

Mr Mcgurn and I have an exciting term 3 planned. I have attached a term 3 overview for you to have a look at. Simply click it to download 😀

Have a lovely well deserved couple of days rest, P7B and families! I’ll see you on Monday.

P6B Learning highlights – Week beginning 17.1.22

This week primary 6B have been working very hard. Here are some learning highlights:

We have been learning Scots language and the meanings of Scots words that we were then able to use in our writing. Some of the words we had heard before but lots of them were new to us! Our reading champions this week were: Amelia, Monique and Hannah.

We have been learning about Charles Rennie Mackintosh and learning about his life and what his inspirations were. We created some stained glass windows in the style of his work to brighten up our classroom.

In numeracy we have been learning about fractions, decimals and percentages and also enjoyed a game of times table bingo on Friday! Our Prodigy wizards of the week were: Lucia, Zak and Anthony and our Sumdog challenge winners were: Sam, Debbie and Susanna.

In P.E we have been working on our fitness and trying our best to improve this!

In R.E we created cards of thanks with prayers inside to say thank you to those who look after us. We are doing very well to collect evidence for our  Pope Francis Faith award folders for the gift of Piety.

Over and above: Our hot chocolate at home winner was Amelia, well done!

We would also like to share with you our overview for term 3:

P1B 21st January

This week in P1B we have been been learning new sounds ‘z’ and ‘w’. We had fun making webs and reading about how a zebra got its stripes.

We have worked hard learning to recognise and order numbers 11-20 and enjoyed learning about capacity.

Our favourite task this week was an experiment using chocolate buttons to learn about changing states. We really liked listening to Michael Rosens poem ‘Chocolate’ as we waited to see what happened to the chocolate. We then worked in groups to sort a variety of things into the correct state : solid, liquid or gas.
