P1B Weekly Highlights 9th December

This week we have been learning the sounds l, ll and r.  We can recall words that begin with these sounds and we have practised forming and writing the letters.

We started our new Topic this week Toys.  We drew a picture of our favourite toy, sorted toys into outdoor and indoor toys.  We also made a toy using paper and a penny.  We were so excited to take them home to show our family.

For writing this week we listened to a story about a Toy Shop and then drew a picture and wrote a sentence about a toy.  We tried to remember to use a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop.

We decorated our class Christmas tree.  Mrs Russell said it was the best decorated Christmas tree in Livingston.

Our Role Play Area has been changed into Santa’s Workshop.  We have been working on our motor skills wrapping objects and toys.  We have also been writing letters and cards and putting stamps on them and posting them in our class post box.

In Maths this week we have continued to work on measure comparing the weight of objects and using the terms, heavy, heavier, heaviest, light, lighter, lightest.

We have started to look at money and are learning to identify all coins up to £2.

P6B – 9th December

This week we have been rehearsing for our Advent Service which we will be performing on Monday. Everyone has been doing a fantastic job learning their lines and learning the songs.

Pupil highlights of the week:

Urwa and Naman – we enjoyed re-visiting line graphs as part of our Data Analysis topic in Maths. We liked drawing, reading and interpreting line graphs and looking at the different ways we can try to understand what the information is telling us.

Niamh – I enjoyed trying to spot ‘fake news’ during critical literacy and remembering to ask the important questions when reading informati0n and making sure the sources are reliable.

Summer – I enjoyed drawing and painting the Nativity scene picture for our Advent Service.

Well done to Sophie-Leigh who was this weeks hot chocolate winner. She is continually trying her best and always following the class and school rules. Sophie-Leigh is growing in confidence each day, which shining through all her work! Well done Sophie-Leigh!

P5B Blog 9th December 2022

This week as part of our Journey towards Rights Respecting Gold Award, we explored Childrens’ Rights articles 26 (social security) Every child has the right to benefit from social security. Governments must provide social security, including financial support and other benefits, to families in need of assistance. We also explored how it links with article 27, Every child has the right to a standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical and social needs and support their development. Governments must help families who cannot afford to provide this. Your children were able to link this with our trying to raise money at school for a trip or a treat for both primary 5 classes.

As part of our RE lessons we are learning about the different weeks of Advent, last week the main them was Hope and this week the main them is bring Peace to everyone around us. During this second week of advent we led the advent service for Primary 4A, Primary 4B and Primary 5A. It was very special event for all of the children to take part in as we draw nearer to Christmas.

Most of our week was finishing off our posters, practising speeches and singing for todays wonderful Christmas Enterprise event which was extremely well attended. We would like to announce that the children (with huge support from families) raise £346.

Christmas Door Competition 2022

Every class in the school and the nursery and all of the adults who do not have their own classroom have been decorating doors around the school to spread some Christmas cheer!  We think everyone has done an amazing job.

It has been wonderful, after a couple of years of not being able to visit other classes to be able to go round the school seeing all of the wonderful artwork that our classes have created.

Enjoy seeing our doors by viewing the link below.

Who would your winner be?

P3A WB 28.11.22

Dear Readers,

We hope you are all well.

In P3A we have had a busy and slightly different week, since we had to prepare all the many things needed for our door. There is going to be a door’s contest and we wanted to make sure that we did everything we could to have a beautiful Christmas door to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus.

We had to ‘glittery’ paint tens and tens, maybe even hundreds, of stars and also the Nativity scene which was great to put our fine motor skills to the test! We also had to .glittery’ paint some very special and bright stars to have our own pictures and they look amazing!

We will be attaching a picture of the left hand side door this week and will share the main one next week.

The main one is the special one, this is just a little teaser…😂

Here it is:

All these stars were painted and cut out by us, of course!😊

But we have done many other things so here are our other highlights for the week:

  • Learning our new spelling words and completing activities with them.
  • Our learning about Advent, its meaning and the Advent wreath.
  • Our day dedicated to learning and working on the life of St. Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland and one of Jesus’ best friends. It was very surprising to find out what St. Andrew had to do with Scotland, and Mrs Valente really insisted that we understood that because of how important and interesting it is.
  • Continuing our column addition sums with carrying.
  • Our 7th Reconciliation lesson when we have learned about the story of Joseph and of how good and blessed by God he was. Everyone got very impressed at how he managed to forgive his own brothers for selling him to be a slave!
  • Completing our word searches and making our hidden words work with our spelling words.
  • Our very much enjoyed spelling assessment.

We would like to congratulate Ollie, our Hot Chocolate of the week for the second time in Primary 3, for his great efforts to continue being super kind towards all, not only in our class but everywhere in the school. Ollie has been picking up other people’s stuff, tidying up tables, looking after his peers’ stuff and helping out with anything that needs done! Well done, Ollie! What a super example to our class!👌👍😊🥇🏆

We would also like to congratulate our super Reading Champions!

Kayla was our first one, a fortnight ago! Well done, Kayla!❤

Kayla loves reading, even more than eating ice-cream!✨🏆😊

This week, our new Reading Champion is Julia! Super congratulations, Julia!❤

Julia loves reading so much that her advent calendar has little books instead of chocolates!🏆👍😍

We hope you have enjoyed our post and say goodbye for now, wishing everyone a great weekend and week ahead.😊

P2B Week Beginning 28th November

Hello P2B families!

Here are our highlights from the Red Table:

Maya said one of the highlights of her week was the daily Advent Reading event.  P7 pupils came at the end of each day to read us a Christmas/Winter themed story.  Not only did they enjoy reading to us but they enjoyed the questions the children asked them to get to know them better.

Musa enjoyed writing instructions about how to cross a road.  We sang the special instruction words: ‘First, Next, Then, Finally’ until they were embedded in our brains.

Ishaan liked hearing the story ‘Not a Stick’ in the woodlands.  The character used his imagination to pretend a stick was different things: a sword, a fishing rod, a spear (among others).  We then collected a stick and everyone had to guess what it was based on the actions.  We had a whole range of ideas ranging from a walking stick, a bow and arrow and wands.  What a creative bunch P2B are!

Isabella liked taking part in our Christmas door design competition.  Each classroom door (and others too) is now decorated Christmas themed.  Mrs Devlin decided to let the children present their ideas.  Isabella drew a super snowman!  Congratulations to the winner, Olivia!  I hope you get a chance to admire it when you come to the concert.

Tharun said he liked handwriting best.  This week we focused on ‘b, k and p’, letters that began with a downward movement and then bounced up and around.

Ollie has really been enjoying a new activity we started this week called ‘Today’s Number’.  This is a 3 digit number.  We read it and then discuss it.  Ollie was able to answer a very tricky question and the class and Mrs Devlin were very impressed!  Mrs Devlin was so shocked she had to sit down!

Mrs Devlin’s favourite part of the week was St Andrew’s Day!  Mrs Devlin LOVES bagpipes!  We listened to traditional music in the background while we did our super craft.  I hope you enjoyed the photos on Seesaw of the kilt and flag your child made.

Congratulations to Maja, who is our Hot Chocolate award winner this week!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend and I look forward to seeing you at the Christmas Concert on Wednesday!  Remember that your child is welcome to bring a Christmas jumper or colours and a hairband or tinsel for the concert.

This week was brilliant. The children have worked very hard! We came 2nd out of hundreds of classes in the Sumdog competition. It was lovely to see everyone come together and offer their support with such passion. Apparently we have a very competitive class. I loved reading the children’s expositions this week and hearing their very interesting points of view. We are working very hard on our critical literacy skill and viewing the world. The children are justifying their thoughts with great skill.

P5B Weekly Blog 2nd December 2022

This week we have discussed International Day of People with Disabilities, which will be on the 3rd of December. This is a global event promoting equality for people with disability and celebrates their achievements. It is also a day to promote awareness of the challenges faced by over 1 billion people living with disabilities, and the role communities and societies play in breaking down barriers to inclusion. We discussed hidden disabilities like deafness, blindness, anxiety, ADHD, Autism and other disabilities which although can’t be seen from outside they are important to recognise and be respectful with these conditions.

Article 2 states:  The Convention applies to every child without discrimination, whatever their ethnicity, gender, religion, language, abilities or any other status, whatever they think or say, whatever their family background.

Article 23 states: A child with a disability has the right to live a full and decent life with dignity and, as far as possible, independence and to play an active part in the community. Governments must do all they can to support disabled children and their families.

Global Goal 10 – reduce inequalities and promote equity

We are continuing to create imaginative Christmas Gifts and rehearsing our performance for the  Christmas Enterprise Show on the 9th of December. On Wednesday we celebrate the Feast of Saint Andrew the Patron Saint of Scotland.

One of our highlights of the week was decorating our classroom door and try to win the best christmas door competition. This morning we had a full rehearsal in the school hall for our Enterprise Show next week. We also practised for our Advent Service on Monday afternoon which the Primary 5A and Primary 4A &4B will attend. Looking forward to seeing our families at our Christmas Enterprise next Friday 9.15.

P5A Weekly update: 2nd Dec. 2022

Hello everyone,

We are already at the end of yet another busy and exciting week! This week was particularly exciting because it was the first week of Advent and our last full week before our Enterprise event!

We kicked off our week with a lovely Advent service led by P4A where we listened to some readings and sang some Christmas hymns. Thank you so much to Mrs Ross and P4A for leading this!

Throughout maths this week we have been revising and solidifying all of our learning surrounding money and we are now looking forward to being able to apply our skills next week at the Enterprise! We particularly enjoyed planning a meal for 4 people (spaghetti bolognese), researching the ingredients required and then using different supermarket websites to find the best deals! We found that Asda was the cheapest on this occasion.  On Thursday we participated in the Sumdog West Lothian schools contest and we did really well! Overall, we came 33rd in the authority, which is really impressive since we entered late and 160 classes were competing! Congratulations P5A!

All week we have been very excited because little signs of Christmas have been appearing! We have loved opening our class and area kindness calendar and practicing our Christmas Carols in time for next week! We also all helped to create a Christmas door for the school’s Christmas door competition and this was so much fun! It was lovely to see everyone’s fabulous creativity and independence when designing their door, well done P5A!

Our class highlights are as follows:

Callie: I liked pyjama day!
Inaayah: I really liked doing the comprehension, it was really fun!
Vijval: I liked doing the sumdog competition, it was fun!
Lucy: I really liked doing French bingo with Mrs McLaughlin.
Lili: I liked doing the symmetry on Tuesday!
Aarya: I liked singing with the other class.
Jacob: I liked doing music a lot this week!
Julia: I like doing Enterprise and making our products.
Madeleine: I liked making the Christmas door for the competition!
Max: I liked P.E, doing all of the dances!
Olivia: I liked the French song.

Our Hot Chocolate winner of the week was Max; he has shown all of our school values in abundance this week- super job!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
